It just seems like for the last few years or many years, we sorta know "who is in". There were some surprises here and there but not many.

Do you prefer to know who is in and satisfied with the outcome being what you expected? Or do you prefer for it to be a little surprise with a couple teams crashing the party?

I think we all like some surprises, but the "brand" teams are also very important, need them in the mix as well.

Why? If 4 teams who have never made it but were the only 4 undefeated teams is that wrong?
Utah, wisconsin, Baylor, ole miss
This would mean that they beat those brand names on the way

I feel that it will never be "4 new teams". Maybe rarely a super brand name and three new teams. Two brand names and two surprises a little more probable. Three brand names and a lesser known a lot more likely. I am a fan of intrigue also.

Ratings/interest is just not the same without the brands being involved. The fans of those teams are a huge crowd and they love seeing them win and others love seeing them get taken down. Just makes for better entertainment. I personally wouldn't have a problem with your scenario but I guarantee ya that the numbers would be down that year. IMO it's better for the sport when there is a mix of both.

Give me chaos
I thought last year was fun when we had 4 non-favoried P5 champions

Who'd of thought back in 2014 that Cincy would make a four team playoff before USC, Texas, Florida, Penn State, etc?

This is an interesting thread for me.

I’ve just not been into college football like I used too. Now, my team is not what it was. I will admit up front that’s the biggest reason.

But, a close second is the lack of intrigue. It increases my interest to have at least one of the four be a Cinderella of sorts. But, then again, there ends up being less intrigue as they generally just don’t stand a chance.

Lack of intrigue matters, but I admit I’ve had a blind spot on power programs and the fans they bring (both cheering for and against). It gets tiring watching the same power teams there every time, but I see better it’s not bad for college football.

It’s just been bad as a fan of college football for me.
