What then makes this picture all the wilder is how the Rock then makes a NHL player look like some small child or dwarf.

Yes and next to Shaq, Wilt, Barkley, the Rock...(or insert your favorite fucking big person since you don't like the one's I found a picture of him standing along side of)...the Rock looks more like a pebble.

The point being made is that they are not as extremely huge as they appear when shown along side someone who actually IS extremely huge.

How in the hell would that point have been conveyed had I posted a picture of them standing by an average sized person?

Top Gun movies not withstanding - A Few Good Men, The Firm, Mission Impossible, Jack Reacher, Jerry Magwire, a few more.
 
I met Tommy Cruise at an empty Hardee's in Naples 30 years ago. He was friendly. I don't recall thinking how short he was, but skinny and tiny. He was as petite as some kid starving in the 3rd world.
