Overdue, IMO. Sorry for your loss, Astros fans.

Saw this. Seems like it would be pretty easy to abuse this. My initial thoughts on how to do so:
1) Find the frequency and skim it
2) use a different ear piece and just have someone talking to the pitcher

Seems it would make “cheating” easier

wrist thingy looks bulky...I imagine the catcher and pitching staff will still have finger indicators in case this thing fails (like the helmet speakers in the NFL often do)

so will pitchers just be on the mound playing with their wrist thing to shake off the catcher?

The pitcher has an earpiece that tucks into the hat. They can nod or shake, and catcher can call another pitch.

It's optional tech, so they can still use signs at any time if they want to, or can go back to signs if the tech doesn't work.

wonder if they are going to hear tones like one of those hearing tests

or will it say "curveball" or whatever in his ear

Its gotta be quicker I would think to do the typical hand signals when a pitcher is shaking of pitches. Can't imagine guys like Scherzer being patient enough to work with the tech. I'm sure like always, the tech can get better and easier to use.

An encrypted channel can be used in multiple languages, and teams can also program in code words to replace pitch names such as “fastball” or “curveball.”

That's why it's optional. Though from that article, it seems most pitchers liked it and said it was easy.

I'm hoping someone has "high stinky cheese" coded in for fastballs.

do you get to choose your voice like an old GPS?

can you get it to be a sexy lady voice with an English accent?

Let's just remove the humans from baseball entirely and watch AI play baseball.

If this stops catchers from getting crossed up because the pitcher is an idiot and forgets what signs they're using, I'm for it.

I'm sure it'll slowly work its way into the game more and more until everyone is using. I can just see several different issues that could pop up occasionally while using it.
