I'm about to embark on replacing the battery in my 10 year old Macbook Pro 15" laptop. Just received the replacement battery today, so I'm ready to "Rock-n-Roll!

I've built my own PCs over the years, but I've always avoided working on any laptop PCs. The battery replacement doesn't look too crazy to do, but Apples notorious for using extra adhesive on their battery packs in their laptops.

Watched a bunch of YT vids and it looks straight forward to do. I plan on buying a new one when the latest version comes out this Fall. So the $57 investment to keep my present (OLD) MBP going until then sounds like a good idea... UNLESS I fuck it up...

Piece of cake! 35 minutes to do and 25 minutes of it was working the battery loose from the adhesive. EZ peazy after that. Charging as we speak!! Which it WASN'T before...

Will be very interested in how this goes for you. I have a Mac book Pro (2015) that I bought as a refurb. Thing runs like a train but at some point I know its going to need a battery

My MBP 15" Retina (mid 2015) wouldn't charge and kept going in a loop when starting up and took 15 minutes to boot and then it was fine except it wouldn't charge. I always had to have it plugged in to work. Couldn't take it anywhere, though.

The video I followed was soooo simple...



You only need two different "drivers"...

1 - Pentalobe Screwdriver P5 (1.2) for the MBP back cover

2 - Torx Screwdriver T5 for the internals (battery install)

We will see how it holds up over the next few weeks...

Can't we go back to the days where a laptop battery snapped into the back underside? It's not like a laptop is smaller than they were when the batteries were just snap in and go. Maybe thinner, but not smaller in screen size.

It's a pain in the ass taking a laptop apart just to access the fucking battery. The goal is to not do any damage to anything not even related to the battery.

Funny that many videos were showing taking out (or loosening the speaker assemblies) and a couple other things taking up to an hour to do, yet THIS video was 46 seconds. They DID speed up the video part where taking out the screws on the back cover, but otherwise it was quick.

The biggest time consumer depends on how much adhesive they used when they built the MBP. But taking it slow and ez it pulled off with no issues.
