You know… we did try the whole “let’s not change the clocks thing” before… it didn’t work

Sorry. Tried posting the article but I can only post the audio version for some reason.

In a nutshell, in the 1970’s, Congress voted to keep daylight savings time year round. At that time, there was an energy crisis and the thinking was longer daylight hours meant more energy savings. It didn’t. What’s more, people didn’t like it so after only 2 years we went back to changing the clocks again.

TBH, what’s the big deal? It’s two days out of the year we deal with it.

They were pussies without dvr and internet's they didn't want to miss their shows to go to the park in the winter

I’m in the minority, but I don’t care how early the sun goes down, I have more fun at night, but I want the sun to rise as early as possible. I hate working in the dark and it won’t get daylight until 9 AM in the winter. If you’re gonna do away with time changes, let it fall back and then keep it there. Gives us the hour of a weekend they stole away from us back that way too

I’m with you. If we aren’t gonna change the clocks I prefer standard time. This guy is actually in favor of keeping it standard time and he does a pretty good job explaining why standard time year round is better than daylight savings time year round. The big one is our internal clocks want to sleep when it gets dark out. That’s how we have evolved as humans. If it stays daylight longer we go to bed later AND have to wake up when it’s still dark out. This leads to a lack of sleep.

You have a point, I just want to stop the changing it's pointless

What if the change was less jarring and disruptive maybe a minute a day so it's win win? 60 days prior to the change

he also makes the point that changing the clocks screws up our internal clocks as well. To me, I doesn’t bother me but he makes a good point about that as well.

It actually does a lot especially to kids. But I remember a study published also links heart attack and lack of productivity for more than just the singular day of change but a week or more of disruption and such

yup… he talks about that as well. This guy is pretty good. @Orlando_Eagles turned me onto his stuff.

There really is no “perfect” solution. There are pros/cons each way. The video talks about how when we change the time we are really just shifting our “social calendars” but that doesn’t often lineup with how our internal clocks operate.

I don't really care what time it is I just want it to stay constant. Or be unnoticeable. Nebraska passed legislation recently or advanced it anyway with regard to time change, I'm more of a leave it up to the state to decide and remove federal guidelines for time. But that's how I feel about most things the federal government sticks it's nose into, leave it to the states to decide. Daylight in Minnesota isn't the same as daylight in Florida

There are times when it's dark when you go to work in the morning and then it's dark when you get home late afternoon or later. Sooo... what's the real problem here?

Personally, I'd rather have the daylight savings time BUT, I'd be okay with the "pick one way and KEEP it there"!

leaving it to the states would be a nightmare for people who travel for business… especially via plane.

Nebraska has stipulations that involves neighboring states adopting similar practices. Traveling is already a nightmare most of the day is borked anyway

I just hate it getting dark before 5pm.
Hate. It.

Whether it is light or dark outside, I don't wanna get out of bed,
So I don't care what time the sun comes up.

I’d prefer standard time, ultimately but really just prefer having to not change the time at all.

My company has a big presence in Arizona and that one hour difference in winter fucks me up way more often than an 8+ hour difference for somewhere across the pond.

In general, I'd agree with you about state decisions in most things, but it needs to be country wide, if nothing else, because of business dealings (for example). It's bad enough with the 4 different time zones in the U.S. but there needs to be a standard reference time point in the U.S. (not the global GMT reference point).

Meh if you're doing business you can spend an extra 30 seconds to look up the time it is where you're going or calling we have time zones as it is so no matter what there's an adjustment
