2022 Hot Takes

He got a solid transfer from Colorado. I expect him to have a big year with a better offensive line to run behind.
MSU had the worst secondary in CFB. Tucker got lucky, I expect we'll see MSU regress from last year.

I don't know enough about Michigan State to make a prediction for 2022. However, I think they have a good RB and I expect they'll run the football well. Tucker is doing a great job with the portal and on the recruiting trail. Considering they went 11-2 last year, it's easy to predict that they won't win as many games this year but they won't be falling off too much.

They also had a pretty darn easy schedule last year. Had Michigan and Penn State at home, didn't play Iowa or Wisconsin in the west. And finished with a Pitt team who's top 2 QB's sat out the bowl game. This year they play @ Penn State, @Michigan, and have Wisconsin back on the schedule. Easily could tack on another couple losses. I expect like 8-4 this year, maybe 7-5 if they drop another one like Purdue last year.

8-4 seems about right. Their over/under is set at 8 right now. The Penn State and Michigan games moving away are the difference makers. They likely won't beat Ohio State, regardless of where the game is.

I said “can”. Didn’t say “will”….as Texas and others have proven time and again.
It doesn’t more times than not. Les Miles was fortunate that there was so much chaos in the 2007 season that they were able to make the NCG despite losing to Kentucky and Arkansas. A terrible Pitt team beating West Virginia made it possible, and by the mid 00’s, Tressel ball stood no chance against SEC speed.

Orgeron pretty took a CEO approach and let Joe Brady handle the offense. Joe Burrow went from decent to first overall pick in the span of one off season

I wouldn't be shocked. Brian Kelly at LSU could end up being a great match (ironically)
if Kelly can win 10+ games in five consecutive seasons at Notre Dame, then he should be able to win 5 straight national titles at a school like LSU. He did great at a place with a defined ceiling, now its time for him to win it at all at a true powerhouse

Brian Kelly has won big at every school he's coached at. I'm not sure why people are down on this hire.

They got lucky in the sense they played like a top 20 team last year and managed to finish top 10. Considering the expectation, that's a great year. I'd say their most fortunate win was against Nebraska. Every other was the expected result IMO.

Tucker has done a good job, considering the dumpster fire he took over. He is now finally starting to get it together on the recruiting trail too. I think they'll be better than PSU and Wisconsin next year. And they own you guys, so I can see them winning in AA next year.

The stats on that Nebraska/Michigan State game were insane.

Total Yards:
Nebraska - 442
Michigan State - 254

First Downs:
Nebraska - 26
Michigan State - 12

3rd Down Conversions:
Nebraska - 7/20
Michigan State - 1/11

Yeah, they won that game because...Nebraska. Lmao.

People like to point out Notre Dame got destroyed in both of their playoff appearances and in the 2012 NCG, but those people don’t realize it’s not the 80’s anymore and ND isn’t a powerhouse anymore and just getting there was impressive.

I laugh at people that shot on Kelly, but think Lincoln Riley and his Minnesota Twins esque playoff losing streak is impressive

Did he find the best RB in the nation on the transfer portal again?
You just lost your entire defensive line. We picked up a couple of good to decent RBs. I think the fall off of Michigan’s defense is going to be greater than our RBs.

Agreed. Brian Kelly took a struggling program and made them a Nationally relevant program that was a regular in the NY6 bowl games. Just a reminder of the trajectory of Notre Dame's program before he took over.

2009 - 6-6
2008 - 7-6
2007 - 3-9
2006 - 10-3
2005 - 9-3
2004 - 6-6
2003 - 5-7

Michigan’s d-line was dookie last year and any team that struggled with them was dookie too. Hutchinson is either gonna be the biggest bust of the draft or Jamaree Salyer is the steal of the draft.

He did a great job at recruiting/developing(ND put a shit load of guys in the NFL in his tenure). My issue with him was always his in-game coaching/adjustments. He just seemed to do a lot of dumb shit all the time. And he could never get the QB position figured out. If he would have recruited/developed a first-round type of talent, I think we could have competed much better in that CFP.

Sounds like Mario Cristobal except for the fact Brian Kelly developed guys

Our offensive line was nearly as bad as our secondary
