JUST GIVE US A CALL

Remember that this is driven by the networks. ESPNs owns the ACC and SECs rights. They aren't going to do anything to devalue their ACC assets until the contract is up. I doubt we see anything happen with the ACC schools until their contract is up. Talks will start around 2032-2033 IMO

people keep acting like the GOR deal holds back schools, but its not. As these discussions happen, it's the networks that have all the leverage here.. ESPN has made it's bed with the SEC and has control over the ACC. Fox is all in with the BiG and even used it's influence with the PAC to pry away SC/UCLA.. and will grab whichever programs in the west THEY SEEM FIT.

Is the PAC going to hold Oregon/Udub/Stanford/Cal/ASU over the coals if they depart in the next few weeks?

Huh? You've been lost on this since day one TX/OU announcement that they're going to the SEC.

No different than USC/UCLA, the PAC will hold those teams you listed to the current GOR.

The PAC GOR expires in 2024. Hence USC/UCLA joining the Big 10 in 2024.
The Big 12 GOR expires in 2025. Hence TX/OU joining the SEC in 2025.

The ACC's GOR makes the PAC and Big 12's GOR's look like chump change.

It IS literally the GOR's that are holding schools back.

It's amazing to me how tejas fans seem to think the donghorns are above (exempt from) everything.

That is because tejas always has two fingers crossed behind their back when negotiating.

Unless the PAC/Big 12 merge (negating the GOR's) then tejas will lose all conference media rights income for every year they depart the Big 12 before 2025.
If they were to leave this year, that's a $155 million haircut.
If they leave in 2023, that's a $110 million haircut.
If they leave in 2024, that's a $55 million haircut.

No. ESPN is not going to pay those buyouts.
No. The SEC is not going to pay those buyouts.

Staying in the Big 12 until 2025 they'll at least keep getting the $42 million/yr until 2025.

That's it. That's the deal.

Texas and OU should be rooting for the PAC to absorb enough schools to dissolve the Big12.
No Big12 = no GOR = see y’all sooner rather than once the B12GOR runs out.

SEC/BIG would both want UNC, no question. Brand, "academics" (theirs are .... questionable due to fraud but that's another thread) new footprint/market for both, make no mistake UNC and their brand is highly desirable.

Miami IMO would be a bigger get for the SEC than the BIG due to the SEC's lack of bigger markets compared to the BIG but I could see the BIG wanting them too for that same reason and to get into Florida to go with California.

Clemson/FSU are desirable, UVA too to a lesser extent.

WE might see a combo move by both the SEC and BIG to nab ND, Miami, Clemson, FSU, UVA, UNC, DUKE and maybe..GT? and destroy the ACC and its GOR with one move.
I actually read the ACC GOR last night (it’s only about six pages) and it’s surprising how simple it is. 1st it doesn’t list which state has jurisdiction legally for the contract which means you can bring suit in any state and he lawyers will argue for months just on that point.

Second it doesn’t spell out what the consideration is for schools signing the contract so again a point the lawyers would argue for months.

The main thing is it can be undone with a vote but doesn’t state how many so I would assume a simple majority. There are 14 members in the ACC (ND wouldn’t get a vote) so that means eight schools would have to approve the end of GOR.

If you add in ND then you have a total of 5 schools which you really need 12 or 6 to each conference taking the conferences to 22. At that point you need to go to 24 and do 6 pods of 4.

So the SEC and B1G would need to probably take 8 each to hit that number or wait until 2036 and just cherry pick. I imagine the B1G could take some more PAC schools to maintain quality something like:

B1G

ND
Virginia
GT
Syracuse
Washington
Oregon
Stanford
Cal

SEC

VT
UNC
Duke
Miami
FSU
Clemson
NC State
Louisville/Pitt/Wake

You could cut of the last two in each group but pods would be difficult. This is what you are looking at to go after GOR right now.

Note the GOR I read was the original so it could have been amended.

UCLA is like the Oklahoma to Texas. Doesn't have a pair of balls to stand on by themselves and has to follow behind their rival.
You're right Ucla is like Oklahoma. Usc can't beat Ucla and Texas can't beat Oklahoma.

This is my favorite thread in the off-season.
