Who says they are? Not in football. It was good enough to form a league of private schools called the Big East.
Also if it is such a money difference, why is UK such a major power player in the SEC?
He and Mile Leach may have been the lamest firings I can remember.I made a reference to him in another thread about Kansas and how Kansas hasn't done anything in football since he was there. He looks like a genius right now based on where the Kansas program is currently versus where it was when he coached them.
What if you are planning on cutting out the NCAA and taking all the money.I don't think so. March Madness doesn't bring that much in per team.
That thread was more about how the ACC still has a decade left before it dies. It wasn't really about expansion
Either way, the only way the ACC survives is if they add the CHARLOTTE 49ers #GoNiners
Phillips is a dickheadHere's my plan to save the ACC:
- It comes down to getting Notre Dame. If the ACC can't get ND, it won't survive. Can't play hardball with them, Notre Dame will just walk away. The ACC has to offer ND something they can't say no too. What does ND want? National Profile for Recruiting and their ability to play their rivals
1) The ACC already has a strong presence across the Eastern Seaboard. In order to enhance the national profile of the ACC, add Stanford, Oregon, Washington and California. This will give ND to play games in the Northeast, Southeast and the West Coast.
2) Rivals - ACC already has Boston College and the Stanford addition is another Notre Dame rival. Notre Dame can be offered membership and the ability to choose the 18th member. If the Navy rivalry is important, Navy can join the ACC for football only. If Notre Dame wants a Texas presence, we can move in that direction.
This offer gives ND something that the Big Ten can't, the ability to play in the south regularly, while maintaining their traditional rivalries. USC is the only annual rival that is OOC and that can continue to be played. This conference would also have 5 teams that have made the CFP, more than any other conference.
Hurry up and get this post to commissioner Phillips and let's save the ACC!

I've been thinking along the same line. If the BIG won't take Oregon/Washington then why not the ACC and include Cal and Standford to give the west coast it's own pod. With or without ND, it's still a good TV product even if it's not making as much money as SEC / BIG. After that 15 years is plenty of time to figure out the next move after 2036, so there's no need to panic.
The NCAA pretty much owns March Madness. The talk is to split off the CFP ... football only and leave hoops to the NCAA.What if you are planning on cutting out the NCAA and taking all the money.
Do they have any value then ???
Depends on the conference. Not a snowball chance in hell for GT to get into SEC, but there is still a chance to make it into B1G, but not for the normal reasons- maybe #3 on the ACC list.I've seen 8, but I've also seen 11. Either way you have to think that GaTech, Wake, Syracuse, BC, Pitt and NSCU won't have homes. Duke is highly unlikely to. If it's 11 that's not happening. If it's 8, that's 7 right there.
What if a majority of teams leave
How many teams have to vote to dissolve ??
didn't read any of it.)
8 not including ND
Teams aren't jumping to the B12 unless they have too. The B12 would love to grab the teams you mentioned plus the PAC teams and have east west divisions. But those ACC teams aren’t going to jump out of the GOR for equal/a bit more pay but a ton more travel costs when in 10 plus years they could probably get into the B12 anyway. If 8 leaving the ACC causes the GOR to blow up, then the SEC and Big XII combined can do that NOW.
SEC grabs 4: Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Big XII grabs 4 or even 6: Miami, Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Louisville.
Plus the Big XII could increase to 22 members by also grabbing Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado.
With the destruction of the ACC under the above scenario, ND finally joins the B1G, along with Stanford, Oregon, and Washington.
The ACC has 4 left out: Duke, Wake, Syracuse, BC
The PAC has 3 left out: Cal, Oregon State, Washington State
Perhaps the B1G increases to 22 if it sees value in also grabbing Duke and Cal.
So... after the dust settles, we end up with a 22 member Big XII, a 22 member B1G, and a 20 member SEC in this hypothetical scenario with both the ACC & PAC going bye-bye.

Yeah but if it puts you in position to kill the NCAA and capture the basketball post season that is worth at least a billion in todays dollars.I don't think so. March Madness doesn't bring that much in per team.
I was thinking the same.Yeah but if it puts you in position to kill the NCAA and capture the basketball post season that is worth at least a billion in todays dollars.
Don’t be so sure the SEC and B1G don’t have their sights on that down the road. They could eventually literally own post season play and the money it generates in all sports.
