Blue Jays fire Montoyo

There may not have been any powerhouse teams, but I'd also say those records say more about how tough their schedules were. All five teams played over 100 games against .500+ teams (Mets had the most with 115). The only other team with 100+ games against .500+ teams was the Cubs.
Fair point. I just remember watching that Braves team and knowing their run was gonna be over soon.

I’m pulling for the Mariners. Haven’t made the playoffs since 2001 despite having 8 winning seasons including 3 90+ win seasons since then, and without looking it up, that has to be the most seasons missing the playoffs with a winning record in that time

Padres were the only .500+ team in the NL West that year and they overachieved their pythag by 5 wins (same pythag W-L as the last place Nats). There were more .500+ teams in the NL East than the Central and West combined.

2005 was a weird season. Cleveland had the best run differential in the AL and missed the playoffs (by 2 games), the White Sox came out of nowhere and won 99 games and overperformed their pythag by 8 wins

And then in 2006, the 83 win Cardinals went on to win the World Series

When it comes to Montoyo, I haven’t seen much worth defending.
