The answer for players skipping bowl games ...

Do you enjoy watching bowl games with a 2nd string roster?
Honestly, as long as we are talkin seniors and/or players going pro that won't be back the next season then yes. It gives some potential starters for next years team some extremely valuable PT heading into the next season.

No worse than watching a couple of 6-6 teams duel it out before Christmas.

I’d rather a player that will be back next year get game action if they aren’t playing in the playoff

So the bowl game is more like a Kickoff Classic. Gotcha.

If I was on one of the bowl committees, I would uninvited a team that doesn't show with its entire squad. Let those prima donas explain to their teammates why the team is staying home.

Or very early spring game yes. Unless we are talkin about the playoff games.
Pre playoff era I might be with ya but it is what it is now..

Why y'all shitting on the Belk Bowl? The 2014 Belk Bowl is my second favorite UGA game of all time. Todd Grantham jumped ship to Louisville and took a bunch of players with him, had a defense that supposedly nobody could run on, and a true freshman Nick Chubb lit that Louisville defense up.
I was at the game. Cold as shit, but fun as hell. Goodness we ran all over that D.

So about 10 bowl games canceled

I've posted this before ... if the bowl games want players to treat it as being important, then pay them. They can do that now with NIL. It still won't be enough for the top players to not skip, but this would add some fun.

It's a good idea but with the current rules I don't know how effective it will be. If I were a player at one school why would I pass up $25K in guaranteed money to transfer in late November for $10K if my team wins and maybe that spot is still open in the off-season.

If the goal is to fix the player issue for bowls either change current rules with NIL and transfer or change current rules with scholarships. NIL I don't know how you change it but if we keep the transfer rule in place but put windows it will help. Say Feb 1 to June 1 you are eligible in the fall and Aug 1-Nov 1 and you are eligible at the start of the new schools next semester. That gives kids an opportunity to transfer and participate in spring practice without rosters taking a hit after their season is over. The other option is to go to say 100 scholarships. The non blue bloods will complain because that means top schools can acquire talent but you will have a bigger pool of 2nd or 3rd team guys looking for greener pastures. It doesn't make long term financial sense for 32 in the Big 2 to create their own league so I figure there will be 60-70 teams that make the break in 3-4 conferences when it's said and done. Some schools will make $100 mil in tv money and the rest will make $70 mil or so. Not the same but half the new league will be able to pay for it easily. For the leftouts that get to play in the Bahamas Bowl-they (as well as their more financially independent friends) can offer partial scholarships. For places like Tulsa or Tulane or hell even Bama, you have 100 scholarships to give but you can have 120 scholarship players on the roster. That would generate enough depth that players jumping before the Bowl game wouldn't have an impact on the teams ability to play in the game.

Make the bowls fork it out instead of collectives. That'll trim the number of bowls down.

I think it’s more for their teammates. Most players never make it to the NFL, but could still get a small payday if their teammates help out.
I get that but the post I replied said to withhold scholarships. The kids skipping dont care about that.

You can't 'make' these guys play.
If you want their participation, show them the money.
