Big 12 thread

NBC pays ND 75 mil then also pays for Big12 1st tier rights? or will they purchase all 3? That seems like a deal that will torpedo NBC

I have a feeling some accountant is over at NBC right now working numbers that will have the B12 give a portion of their share to get ND up to the 75 mill

What would the B12 get realistically? I think that’s a good question Too. Obviously they won’t get 75 per team a year, but they can’t be doing it for almost nothing either.

So if you are the Big12 and IF...(big if) making a deal with NBC/ND and or some other networks puts the Big12 into a "comfortable" level with the ACC as far as staying competitive financially (neither is catching the BIG/SEC anytime soon that's a given) then why not take OU and Texas' early out money and apply it to your future rather than watching em both leave with nothing in your hands except air when that day comes? They are leaving either way so..
The math has to be that making them stay to the end brings more money to the B12 than letting them leave early and pay a penalty. I think that would be some pretty easy math for them to run.

Thats the x factor, what/how much is network X willing to give the Big12 or PAC ect. in the new era? These moves we are seeing would indicate that the value of live content is on the rise and the new contracts are supposed to be astronomical so, sure the big brands in the B12 and PAC are gone BUT the networks STILL want live content, football in particular so how much is it worth to them?

what were they getting now - i think its around 40 million per school

what are they worth without OU/UT - I've heard anywhere between 12-25 million

Absolutely but I think the B12 will hold on to what they have for 3 years if that worth to the networks doesn’t match what they have now. Just my opine though

42.6 per but that doesn’t include tier 3. Getting as many suitors is the best bet. Plus they’ll have 2 extra teams. (At least right now) If they can come close to 30 per I think they’d be good contract to take given the circumstance. I doubt they get that though.

Dunno if they knew what they were talking about or not but some radio state sport guys in WV said they guessed around 15mm per post OU and Texas right after it was announced that they were leaving.

I think this is pretty standard in TV ratings in general. Not just sports, but all TV. Some shows are so good that people will tune in to what is in front of it and stay after. You wanted to be the show that was before and after Friends, Mash, Seinfeld, etc. They can also market it all week long ... ND v. USC at 3:30pm .... Baylor v. UCF at 8:00pm ... and now I see the problem, LOL.
UCF Baylor will probably draw more than Texas Tech vs Houston...cept for us Lone Star Staters.

Matchups like you point out has been my point all along....and not just with the Big 12 or Pac 12. Northwestern vs Rutgers ain't gonna draw no matter where you put it...no matter how damn many people live in Chi town or NY/NJ. Hell, you could put it in the prime 3:30 spot and it wouldn't draw. (Except for us CFB nuts. We'll watch any shit show.)

No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig, it is still a pig.

With the exception of some BYU games, the new Big 12 match ups ain't bringing in the bacon whether it is scheduled before or after the Notre Dame game. If such match ups could bring in the bacon, they'd be in a position to get more money on their own anyway.

Name me a future Big 12 match up that moves the needle nationally? Iowa State vs Cincy? UCF vs K-State? Houston vs TCU? BYU vs Baylor? There just isn't one that I can find. The only ones that MIGHT move the needle a little would be in one team wins some significant OOC games and goes on an undefeated run. Then the chance of a CFP birth MIGHT move it a little.

I was under the impression if UT and ou left early.. that the contract would not change.. the conference could then split UT and ou portion among the other 8.. But I actually want UT and ou to stay longer now.. I want them to attend the meetings, make everyone uncomfortable and demand that they too get some of the money the new additions are paying to join..

It depends on rankings and how teams are doing. If your argument is ”well that’s not a brand name so I’ll never watch.” then yeah it’s going to falter. But If it’s we got a top 15 matchup with Baylor visiting Cincinnati at the noon spot, watch ND at 3:30 or 4 and then a top 10 Oklahoma State visits Provo then it could workout, at least some. I understand it won’t be perfect but but it could be a chance to compete.

It truly depends on where teams are ranked.

No you don’t, you want so bad for UT to leave now and the B12 to be dissolved.

Get comfortable oppie

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to be honest
Ohh I get it, but this jackass saying he hopes UT stays another 3 seasons is absolute bullshit. He has been trying to figure out a way that the PAC could take some B12 members and kill off the conference ever since you both announced the horrid exit. (Horrid for me, not you)
