Incredible chase scene. Trivia question. The driver of the black Charger Bill Hickman was in the following car when James Dean bought it in Chalome in 1955 heading for a race in Salinas that day.
Another crazy scene at the end where McQueen is on the runways at SFO. Old school PSA 727s and Pan Am 707s. He does actually run under a moving 727 on the runway in that scene. Did that and all his own driving. Man those two cars in that chase. Would love to have those now. What was cool about that chase was it went through part of SF and ended up over the Cow Palace onto the main road through Brisbane. My father had a client in the industrial park there in Brisbane back in the 1970s and we always drove that same stretch of road that runs alongside the business park.
Those Chargers are fast but they don't handle well at all. My brother had a 1970 Challenger which I always used to drive. It was hard to take a fast corner with it. My Firebird was much better. The Mustang even better. Looking at those old films you can see the landscape in the background. Amazing seeing how much the area has changed since these movies were filmed.Another crazy scene at the end where McQueen is on the runways at SFO. Old school PSA 727s and Pan Am 707s. Especially those old 1960s and 1970s muscle cars. A friend's brother had a 1970 R/T Charger like in the movie. That car was a tank.handling is not good in most American cars when compared to German cars. American cars go very fast but in a straight line. German cars are designed better for handling at higher speeds

It is amazing how much it has changed. I grew up in Cupertino and don’t recognize it now although have not been over that way for a few years. My best friend had a 70 Challenger too. His was a piece of junk. Couldn’t turn off the engine sometimes. Pistons still popping intermittently with key off until it finally gave up after a few minutes and stopped lolThose Chargers are fast but they don't handle well at all.
