Big 12 thread

I guess I'm wondering where 'the value' is
Good academic, new market. And yes I’m aware markets aren’t as important as they used to be. Getting into an SEC state. Lets be honest, is there anyone else besides ND left that’s going to add to increase the pay per team?

This has been my point the entire time. Big 12 might have bigger brands available at the end of the day. There aren't that many moves left.

Ohh I agree. So for all tense purposes if ND stays independent then the realignment should be done. I still don’t believe that will be the case.

That’s a big “might”.

I understand but there should Be no realignment by anyone in the SEC or B1G if it doesn’t involve ND joining. That won’t be the case though.

If it takes a team bringing $100 Million Dollars a year to the table NOW, to get into the SEC or B1G, what is that going to look like in 12 years when the ACC GOR expires.

And by that time, all of these ACC teams will each be $500 Million Dollars Behind in trying to 'Build Their Brand'.

How are any of them are going to make that happen exactly ???

It might not happen. If that’s the case, those second tier options will still be there. If I’m the Big 12, I’m not rushing to give spots to the least valuable pieces on the board

Again, there is very little chance UW/UO are coming to the B12 on their own. Feels like it’s the same for ASU and Utah. They are only moving if their hand is forced. Grabbing AU and Colorado all but force all of their hands one way or another.

This is my point, if we are looking at well they don’t increase the pie per team then both P2 better not add unless it’s ND. I don’t believe realignment has stopped that’s why I think the argument of they don’t increase the pie is a bit off base as almost no one will increase the P2 but they don’t seem like they are done adding teams over all.

I'm not sure Zona and CU bring as much as you think they do. I'm not sure the PAC 12's valuation changes at all if they replace them with SDSU, Fresno or Boise.

It sucks but there's probably nothing the Big 12 can do to force these changes. They kind of have to wait and see if the pieces fall in a way that benefits them. The good news is that it's certainly realistic that things will play out in a way that favors them. But the idea that "We have to act now" is how you get the worst brands on the board, not the best.

I don’t think they bring what ND does, but it’s not as if they bring nothing.

And this is where we can just say we agree to disagree. The B12 can’t just wait and hope Stanford gets plucked for the B1G with ND. That’s a big gamble and as we saw last year things could change quick. The PAC could have killed the B12 but now the B12 has a chance to damage the PAC if not kill it. Playing the waiting game the roles could reverse again. That’s why I don’t want the B12 to wait. But if I was a fan of most PAC teams I would want to wait. So I get your opinion on this.

It depends on the conference. With the B1G and the SEC estimated at $110 million plus starting at 2027 after the CFP is redone, not really. ND would. Oregon, Clemson, UNC, and FSU might but probably not.

As for the B12 and PAC, totally different scenarios. The B12 is supposed to be around $50 million after OU and TX leave. Easier to get to $50 million if you have a shot at the CFP. BYU, Cincy, and others brought that to the table. Oregon, and Washington definitely would bring enough to the B12. Not sure about Utah and Colo and the Arizona schools, but thinking that would destroy the PAC and that would be good for the B12.

I have no illusions that adding AU and CU will be some windfall for the B12. My main point for the B12 adding them is it forces UO and UW to do something (likely join the B12) as they aren’t joining the B12 on their own. But also it likely destroys the PAC (as you mention) and doesn’t let them be hunters next time around as the scenario changed from a year ago. I truthfully think it’s the safest play for the B12 to be #3.

I am with you ... also, the B12 has the advantage, it appears, of having a new commissioner who is a businessman who is likely to be more creative with what he is putting together. They also have all the time zones which is going to be more attractive for TV. The PAC is dead, IMO. They can't add anyone that will bring what UCF, Cincy, BYU and Houston brought (not that they brought a lot).

I can see 4 Power conferences - B12 (Florida to Cali), B1G (NJ to Cali), the ACC (Miami to upstate NY), and the SEC (from Florida to Texas/Oklahoma). The PAC, west coast only is done.

CFP will be 5 AQs (top 5 conferences), byes to the top 4 schools regardless of conference. Give me home games for the 2nd set of games and we are off and running. Fuck you Rose Bowl.
