Big 12 thread

same challenges? really?
Oregon may have been able to get some Cali kids due to going to games at those schools but what maybe 2 a year where as those schools could recruit them all year long much easier.
Boo Hoo. You say you couldn't recruit out of California, your next door neighbor to the south. Just like OU couldn't recruit out of Texas? Do you know what every town in Texas with at least 5,000 people had for decades? A 7-11 and an OU recruiter.

In 1945 Oklahoma University made a decision that they were going to put together one of the best Programs in the Country.

OU raised the money, put it to good use in hiring the best Coaches, having the best facilities, and recruiting.

Oklahoma took advantage of the GI Bill and all of the guys coming back from war to build a huge program. It was 'men among boys', and the results showed on the field.

Oklahoma's innovation of 'Marketing' produced the first Coaches Show in the nation, providing huge income streams for the program. Other Programs quickly followed.

In 1984 Oklahoma took the NCAA to Federal Court and kicked their shit in and took their lunch money, so Programs could get the 'Money they Deserved'

What was Oregon doing all this time???

are you telling me that northern California has the same recruiting as southern California?
Eugene to the border town of Hilt is over 3 hours drive.
over 7 hours to the nearest city listed in the top 10 populous in california.

Norman to Texas under 2 hours.
Norman to a populous Texas city 3 hours

You didn't mention the rest of the story. The business interests that wanted to put a top caliber program in the state of Oklahoma first approached Oklahoma A&M about it. The school that had a couple of recent natties in basketball and an undefeated season (which was later recognized as a nattie) in football but the AD was unwilling to cheat. So they went down the road to a school that had no qualms about cheating and the rest is history.

Didn't Portland have an airport in the 1950's to use for flying to LA? Give it up. Oregon missed the boat. They were off somewhere getting high, eating marionberries and contemplating their next protest when a lot of other schools were building their football programs. Now you're "entitled" to play with the Big Boys? Nope. Success in college football is earned......not handed out like EBT cards or participation trophies. Oregon had one shot at the big time and Phil Knight did his absolute best. When he passes away you guys will NOT get the same support out of the Nike management team. You have good reason to be worried now but you have no excuses for failing to win even one NC in 127 years.

you do know the University of Oregon is not in Portland right?
you can argue it all you want but look at the history of when more teams started doing better and getting better recruits to smaller areas 100% it will line up with things like Scholarship limits and other advances and rule changes.

your take on all of it the same as Oh you're sick? have you tried not being sick anymore?
depressed? cheer up and smile that will work

No shit? It's not in Portland? REALLY? Wow. Kind of like how the University of Oklahoma isn't in Oklahoma City and we have to drive to OKC to fly anyplace on a commercial flight? You are fucking clueless, man. We all had the same opportunities. Some of us took advantage of them. Oregon didn't. Now you're stuck holding your hand out.

...and a Dairy Queen

Non-sense a population of 5K can’t support a DQ.
Man, we're talking Texas here. A population of 5k will support a 7-11 and a Dairy Queen AND a WHATABURGER.
And prolly a Jack-in-the-Bow and maybe even a Sonic. Them Texas people love their fast food!!

edit
and either a Popeye's or Chick-fil-A.......maybe both

thinking or believing all schools had the same opportunities through time and history is delusional.

Yeah, that drunk bird must have had too much of his @Wild Turkey. He doesn't know small town Texas at all. Just looking at the A's with DQs in Texas, there are five with populations of less than 5,000. Abernathy, Albany, Anahuac, Archer City and Aspermont. And Alpine is just barely has over 5,000. Sonics and Subways show up a lot in the small ones as well. Now, when you get to those high falootin' eateries like Chick-fil-A, Popeye's and Whataburger, those require a more classy level of hick.

We should have built a Trump type wall along the Red River many years ago.

My Grandmother always told me........................

"CAN'T NEVER DID ANYTHING"
My Mom and Dad must have told me a hundred times the last four letters in American spell I CAN and two-thirds of God is GO.
