HooplaNation's Preseason Rankings - Discussion Thread

We'll see what happens. I think both lose to Clemson, no matter the location. Then Wake has road games at FSU, NC State and UL. I could see both going 9-3, also. I don't think ranking NC State at 10 is that far off from where they will be. Probably lower on Wake than most.
What makes you think FSU can even hang with Wake, much less beat em? Only for sure loss on Wake’s schedule is Clemson. NC State would be favored, but wouldn’t be a big upset for Wake to win. They did win the division last year and finished 11-3 and will have one of the top offenses in the ACC

I'd guess Wake will be an underdog against FSU, especially with it being on the road. Whether that translates to a victory or not is to be seen. Yeah, they have a dynamite offense, and I'd expect they will again. I'm worried about the defense.

I think they are probably a 10 win team. I don't think there's much difference as far as a power rating, but Wake has a harder schedule IMO, which leads them to a couple more losses. They also return 17 starters, from a team that finished top 20.
So you rank teams base off their schedule? Interesting 🤔

Prior to the season, I rank based on how I predict the teams will finish. Once games are played, I adjust accordingly.

They’ll be lucky to make a bowl game TBH. Their out of conference is baby sh*t soft so some may buy in at first but UNC, FSU, Clemson and Louisville are all better than they are so, could be a rough season for them.

We took Alabama to 4 overtones so I wouldn’t count us out.
Idk. We can already check off UGA and Scar as a lost for Auburn, good luck going 8-1 the rest of the way

If Auburn doesn’t play in the SEC we don’t lose Nix and beat SC. Nix isn’t awesome but we were awful without him. I definitely think it would be doable in the ACC.

In the ACC? Yes

How many SEC teams pull that off with the same schedule?

Here is Clemson's schedule. Classically situation of a team that starts out crappy but started to turn it around towards the end of the season. That makes them a popular pick for next year's preseason polls (nearly every media has them as a playoff contender). Sure, they are risky but they are being judged by end of the season and returning players, not on their earlier losses. Also keep in mind that all three of their losses were to teams that won 10 or more games.

We are talking 4 quarters, first 3 quarters Nebraska might be #1 but 4th quarter is 187th.
Not this year, foo.

Because Bo Nix is invincible outside the SEC :bored:

I think Iowa should be ranked around 20th or unranked. They should have a Top 10 defense and a very questionable offense that should rely on the punter and field position.

I am hopeful the OL is much improved, especially in run blocking. Iowa had talented RBs behind an OL that couldn't block for them. The OL had decent pass blocking and a QB who was alright (not great) at getting the ball to the receivers, just didn't have the receivers except for a TE. Another season of Iowa blowing out teams 17-3 or something like that, or getting blown out 10-0.

Agree. Getting a 2 score lead on Iowa is Light the Cigar time.

Hmmm. Maybe only old folks will get the reference

I am not going to waste time deciding if a poll is a troll one or the person really meant it - even if it is really obvious. If it has 25 different FBS teams, I am going to count it as official. If you do post a troll thread (1) make a list < 25 teams, (2) include FCS teams, (3) put team(s) on more than once.

So, @NU_FTW's poll will be included.
