It. Is. On.

Pac-12 commish George Kliavkoff about Big 12’s Brett Yormark’s comment about Big 12 is open for business. “I appreciate that. We haven’t decided if we’re going shopping there or not”

Things are getting prickly and where there is smoke there is fire.
lol

What is it with the PAC and their commissioners? He whines about the B12 coming after the PAC ... duh. But then, this:

Kliavkoff's Pac-12 has quickly gone on the offensive. The conference has been "actively exploring expansion opportunities," Kliavkoff said, marking the same strategy that kept the Big 12 afloat after Texas and Oklahoma announced plans a year ago to leave for the SEC. However, the expansion battle is turning into an existential game of Risk with tens of millions of television dollars on the line.

So, not okay for people to come after your teams, but perfectly fine for you to go after others. How do these people live twisted up like a pretzel?

that and UCLA is so far in debt that had no choice but to follow the money because the Pac isn't paying shit
UCLA gets over $535,000,000 of funding annually from the State of California to fund its operations. That's ~35% of their operating budget. You act like a piece of the B1G $$$ is gonna replace that kind of funding if someone gets funky and decides to play hardball with UCLA's state funding. LMAO This is probably going to end up in the courts or at least a heated topic in the State Assembly and State Senate.

Dude is running scared and playing any card he can think of. He has no choice but to paint the B12 as desperate with him having all the options. He is literally one more defection from a complete folding of the conference.

Rumors are that Arizona is flirting pretty heavily with the B12 and no one knows what ASU’s position is. It’s not far fetched to say that if AZ strikes a deal it could be over.

PAC commissioner desperately needs to flip that script and get a Big 12 member interested in moving to the PAC but he can’t exactly start calling around or get slapped with a tampering lawsuit.

His only play is the bluff and I don’t blame him. History will record him as the commissioner that lost the PAC.

I always kinda thought these teams would move together as a package if they moved somewhere. ?>?

Rumors in WV (no idea if they have merit or not) is that the Big12 would ideally want the flagship universities first, Arizona being one, Utah, Colorado ect. But again, that’s somebody’s “sources” out there so..

If it’s me making the call for the Big12 I do take both plus Utah for some rivalry games and of course Oregon and Washington if they were available.

This article kinda talks how the ArizonaU admin wants to go to the B12 (per a source) but needs a travel partner. That travel partner may not be ASU. The guy specifies that he doesn’t know what would happen if that travel partner isn’t ASU. But that AU should jump if Utah wants to.

If they want to jump they should just do it because it would sink the PAC regardless.

I truthfully think they are just waiting for a Partner. It does make sense for them a bit considering there is almost zero chance they get into the B1G or SEC and they seem to value basketball a lot more then football which the B12 conference should continue to be damn good.

Im sure Warrens comments about still evaluations multiple teams didn’t ease there concerns about the PAC ether.

Arizona vs Kansas would become a huge bball rivalry.

He took a poison pill of a job. A year ago he wanted to raid the Big 12 but USC shut it down. It made sense. The conference was in trouble and from a TV rights perspective taking 4-6 CST teams meant college football for 12 hours with decent watchable matchups and there is serious money in that. USC shut it down because they knew it would mean a new GOR deal and they had no intention of signing it because when he tried to extend theirs they refused to sign. It's rumored he almost quit but he was convinced to stay and now we know why USC was really against anything that would extend their GOR beyond the current deal.

He can bluster all he wants but at the end of the day the networks tried to kill one conference and that didn't work so they are trying to kill another. If he saves it good for him but it will be because the networks think $60 million per year for 18 schools is cheaper than $50 million for 24 and see breaking up the ACC in a decade as another cost saver.

replacing USC and UCLA is different than replacing ASU, Arizona, Utah and Colorado.
lose the 4 corners and Boise, San Diego State, Fresno and Nevada could come in and the $ would be the same.

Maybe I am wrong, but ASU seems to want to be a USC wanna be. They have a large SoCal population and I can see ASU thinking they are more SoCal cool than Texas country.

Pac12 needs to do what Big12 did last year to survive and go out and grab some decent teams. Problem is Big12 had an advantage of getting first picks and most of the stronger non-Power 5 teams were poached.

Two teams tend to stand out for Pac12: Boise State and San Diego State. Boise State won't be attractive due to academics. Once you get past those two, I guess your best bets would be Fresno State and Nevada (or UNLV). Fresno State doesn't seem that attractive because they are in Northern California which is already represented by Cal-Stanford duo.

UCLA and USC are going to be very DIFFICULT to replace. I still think Oregon and Washington would be better off going independent than staying in the Pac12.

Will the PAC require that a replacement team must bring $50 million dollars to the table per year to be considered ???
