The 21st Century all bust team

They had to have at least made the Majors to qualify, so that Appel dude doesn’t count. I’m doing zero research and going from memory, so I’ll probably forgot someone obvious

C- JP Arencibia
1B- James Loney
2B- Gordon Beckham
3B- Brett Lawrie
SS- Addison Russell
OF- Dom Brown
OF- Jordan Schaffer
OF- Hector Olivera

SP- Joba Chamberlain
SP- Archie Bradley
SP- Dylan Bundy
SP- Jo-Jo Reyes
SP- Chris Volstad

CL- Ken Giles

poor Joba got fucked over by injuries

seems like quite a few pitching prospects that flopped had pedestrian peripherals in the minors, whether it was walk issues or mediocre strikeout rates (or both). The only time Volstad had a K/9 even above 7 was in the GCL, Jacob Turner had a 7.0 K/9 in the minors (and only 5.8 in the majors). Archie Bradley had a 4.7 BB/9 in the minors (that was as a starter, and he only pitched one MLB season as a starter). Kyle Drabek had a 6.7 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in the minors and he had a 123:117 K:BB ratio in 179.2 major league innings.

So is Chris Davis on this list, or is he on the 21st Century Flame-outs or 21st Century Worst Contracts lists?

nah, he had a long career with some great years mixed in with some really bad years. he wasn't that highly touted as a prospect, only ranking in top 100 lists one year (2008; #65 per BA and #74 per Baseball Prospectus). rollercoaster of a career, but it's still a respectable 13 year career.

one of the worst contracts of all-time? absolutely.

I thought about Jennings but he was a pretty useful player for four years (11+ WAR from 2011-14) before falling apart from injuries. Disappointing career, but I don't think he was a total bust. I was expecting him to be another Carl Crawford type that would wreak havoc on Red Sox catchers.

Anybody mention Felix Pié yet?
