USC & UCLA Are Already Regretting Their Decision To Join The B1G - Kliavkoff

I don't know where they're getting this "fans are upset" idea either. Everyone I've talked to is pretty pumped about regular matchups with UCLA and USC.

I would argue Colorado and Utah are tougher road games than B1G stadiums due to the higher altitudes. Also, I think some of the B1G stadiums are indoor (Minnesota).
they havent been indoors for over 10 years

That is what I was talking about with Philosophy. Tennessee had same problem to with Heupel's hurry up. It especially hurt us in 3Q and 4Q when our offense would get tired and stop scoring/moving the ball. One interesting off-season discussion was actually about conditioning of our offense because the 3Q was our weakest quarter from an offensive perspective. They calculated numerous 3-in-outs that forced the defense back onto the field quickly.
I would suggest it was less conditioning of your players and more just letting the other team make in-game adjustments. We knew you would punch us in the mouth in the first quarter. We just had to survive that, let our players and coaches adjust, and then let the talent take over. As the years go on, we will know more and more about how to defend your O. That's the problem with gimmicky Os ... at some point the other teams figure it out.

Yep. I keep forgetting about Colorado and Utah.

Every conference has its weather challenges. As someone else mentioned, the South has heat and humidity early in the season.

When you consider the heat in Arizona early in the season and couple that with cold and rain in the PNW plus Colorado and Utah, you can make a case that the PAC actually has a wider range of potential weather issues than any other conference.
Never thought of that, but that seems right. But you know the B1G fans and their "can't wait to get you on the frozen tundra" argument. Like we want games decided by weather ... SMH.

I do think we will be less gimmicky as we get more talent in. I think we were very aggressive this past season to overcome the lack of talent and issues with our team (notably the inability of our offensive line to hold up against rushes).

Still, coming from the team, there was conditioning issues on the offense (defense had conditioning as well but that was also due to being on field for long spurts). 3rd Quarter was our worse quarter. Now you say it was about adjustment but generally Tennessee had bursts in the 4th quarter as well.

It appears that UCLA had no other choice but join the B1G. Are they the school that got USC on board or vice versa?

The way that it was reported out here was that the B1G wanted USC, USC needed a travel partner for the Olympic sports and wanted to make sure the rivalry was preserved, so they suggested UCLA who then jumped at the chance, largely because of their debt.

Define “gimicky” please. I’m old enough to remember when the wishbone and the veer were first introduced and called the same.

rumor was both reached out to the Big without the other knowing
I don't buy that. There were discussions behind closed doors as there always are.

You think TX and OU decided to join the SEC without discussing it?

I know USC has not been happy with the PAC for years and from what I have heard, their handling of the Covid season was kind of the last straw.

It looks like they had already been considering moving to another conference or going independent and put out some ''feelers'' to see if it could be done in a way that made sense.

Then, the way the Covid season was handled and with the GOR deadline approaching...got them to finalize their decision and make the move.

Yep... There were a few earlier rumors floating about that had them seriously thinking of going independent. So you're probably correct that they did "put out some feelers" and obviously it seems to have worked out... so far anyway.

Oklahoma State has had more than its share of tragedy. But Fate always seems to test the good people more than the bad people. I'm not saying the travel by itself will mess up anyone. What will get them occasionally is a long layover because of weather or equipment problems + the time change + the inevitable frigid game conditions that will all conspire to be more than a football team can handle that is used to being rested and playing/practicing in nice weather. It's going to happen and when it does the sports world is going to be all up in arms about if a (for example) top 5 USC team losing a game to a weaker team because of the playing conditions should drastically affect their playoff chances. It's life. Things happen. The sports that are played indoors won't have as many potential problems. You're an Okie so you understand the difference between the nasty cold rainy weather during late fall on the West Coast and the hellish wind chill that is common in NW Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle up into the Midwest. It's just a whole different thing. I've got friends who have moved from Oregon and Washington to that part of the country and they ask me WTH is with this weather? :)

So basically it comes down to recruiting. USC has to pick up kids that can play in adverse conditions. If they focus on socal that's a problem unless they are really good at evaluating talent. If they pick up kids from all over it's probably not a problem. Williams is from DC so he knows what winter looks like on the east coast. So he probably has a good idea what Michigan looks like in November because it's not like he'll see it in January. For the west coast kids we are talking late fall in B1G territory. There may be snow but we might still be mowing the lawn. We don't know. So it's an issue but it's more about playing in September type temps vs it's kinda cold but not shitty weather so it's a non issue

Johnny One Note. Your personal opinion establishes nothing. I have the experience; you don't. The Japanese Current makes the climate on the West Coast very mild. I've had a home in Oregon for 17 years so I know the difference. You just like to throw shit like some monkey at the zoo. I have been in business for a loooong time in that part of the country and the weather is more harsh. "Largely complete", you say. LMAO As in not finished. Adios, Johnny. Good luck in that wind chill that starts dipping in October.

Just as likely to face adverse weather in Boulder, SLC, or Pullman.

You have been exposed as a complete buffoon.
