CFP Expansion ... it's back on and better than ever ... kind of ...

If you are going to end up with the SEC and the B12, what do you care where the money comes from or goes. Putting OU and TX in the SEC makes ESPN more money immediately. Why not help the process, especially since it's all been decided except for when. It's basically a math equation they can run and it makes sense or it doesn't. I think that's the reasoning.
I just find it funny as hell that ESPN is willing to fork over money to get Texas/OU to the SEC quickly when not too long ago they upped the ante to keep them in the Big 12. Fickle as a woman.

12 team playoff has been approved. Could start as early as 2024

You make that sound like it's a bad thing. Name me one other sport, in the entire world, where losing your first game of the season means you are out of contention to be the champion. Read that again ... how utterly stupid is that? Lose one game and you are out. You write as if you think that is a good thing.

As for your second point, that game would be crazy no matter what the CFP looks like. That's college football. That's rivalries. So, let me ask you a question ... with a 12 team CFP, are we going to have more rivalry games or fewer? My job is done.
there’s a reason CFB is unique and has unprecedented engagement for a college level sport: because it isn’t like the other sports.

“Boise has no shot and never will.” Neither do/will Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Oregon State, etc.

That said, I’m on record/in favor of G5s having their own playoff.
I think there’s a way other P5 have a shot. The same path Clemson took. It’s a long one and requires luck, both in coaching hires and talent.

I wonder if this slows down expansion talk? Top 6 conferences get an AQ, then 6 at large bids.

I'm good with this but curious how it works.

4 teams get byes?

I don't think they really care unless once the calculations are done ESPN gets more money. They aren't doing it because they like OU or TX, or the SEC. They will do it if having it happen, renegotiating with the SEC, and then getting a deal with the B12 means they make more money. No more, no less.

The uniqueness is in rivalries, a regional nature to it. The way it has handled its championship has always been a bug not a feature. It was popular despite the fact that they decided their champion in a dumb way. They gotten better each time, and this time they are getting it just right.

The 12 team will make the season more important and exciting than ever.

You didn't respond to this: So, let me ask you a question ... with a 12 team CFP, are we going to have more rivalry games or fewer?

Let me know your answer. Think through what regular season schedules will be like in 2026 and then tell me there will be fewer rivalry and meaningful games.

There’s rivalries in professional sports. They suck. And the reason is that very rarely in the pros does a rival get to take you out.

With a 12 team playoff we may have more rivalry games, which also dilutes their importance. Michigan Ohio state twice? No thanks.

Imagine last year. Michigan finally takes OSU out. Then they meet again in the playoffs? Just ruins it. No one cared about Alabama Georgia part 2 for a reason.

Where going to see fairy regular matchups between conference foes in a 12 team playoff. I hate it.

11 SEC teams and Ohio State goin for the National championship?

Count me in!
:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

Clemson was never like Rutgers, Vandy, Oregon State, etc.

I saw where the most popular model is 12 teams with 6 automated bids from the top ranked conference champs and 6 at large.

There aren’t 4 conference champs that should sniff the playoffs let alone 6. If this passes it will only result in some bad blowouts.
There's already bad blowouts

At least 5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10 and 8 vs 9 will likely be better than pretty much every 1 vs 4 have we've ever seen

And how many people watch the regular season in college basketball and baseball?

Even the NFL is a bit different model, there's only 30 something teams. But the regular season, and losses, don't carry nearly the significance that they do in college. IT's the same problem CBB shares, you don't want to lose in the regular season but ultimately it doesn't matter unless you lose a lot.
The playoff bye is valuable enough to where every loss does indeed matter in the NFL.
