Not even in 2019 when they were 4th in the nation in scoring defense and gave up only 4.1 yards per play? Yeah they lost to Clemson but they held a Clemson team averaging 43.9 points per game to 29. They held Jonathan Taylor to 2.6 YPC in their first meeting with Wisky (though he did run for 148 yards on 7.4 YPC in the B1G Championship). They shut out an 11-3 Cinci team. They never gave up more than 30 points, which isn't easy to do in this era of college football.
One thing that OSU does seem to be lacking in the last couple of years is a big playmaker on the DL... usually they've had the Bosa brothers or Chase Young. They didn't have a single player with 6+ sacks last year.
I think they had teams good enough to win a title in both 19 and 20 in most years of CFB.
19 they should have beaten Clemson just shit themselves in the foot and a few calls didn't go their way. Wouldn't have mattered as they weren't beating a historically great LSU team.
20 they beat Clemson but ran into a historically great Alabama team. The offense that team possessed was unreal.
