Alright admin and office people.... (@moxie) or anyone else

We're ditching Skype and going with Microsoft Teams.... what do I need to know?

No gym for me. Just replacing a door and picking up some checks today then it’s probably off to the bar for lunch and beers.
Let's trade lives for a day! But let's swap "replacing" a door with "opening", kay? :suds:

We tried switching from Zoom to Teams (we use Teams for a bunch of subcommittees) for video conferencing a few months ago but the audio was fucked. Supposedly it is better now. That's all I got.

It's mediocre. Videos are grainy and there's a lot of lag.

BUT, if you're using Office 365 you already have access to teams, and the security is better than platforms like Zoom

We're trying to EOL skype (I do like the whiteboard there though) because call quality is spotty and move to Teams since we're a super MSFT-heavy environment but it seems Zoom has a lot more collaboration functionality. Or maybe people just like the break-out rooms & shit it does. We were told that only our sales & marketing teams are supposed to have Zoom accounts (very specific security measures in place), however, the app was pushed to me by IT a couple weeks ago, so who knows. Probably just have access because of my new role. I haven't used WebEx for a meeting I've created in over a month, easily. I have one hold-out that keeps scheduling that way, but it's not a popular choice.
I wish we'd figure out a standard and just go with it.

Oh- twinsie... get the app for your phone if you don't have it already. Depending on your company's account, they may not give you a dial-in #, just the link to get to the meeting when it's scheduled. If you don't have the app, you can't call in manually when you're away from your laptop.

We already use 365... which I've hated. Been using it for 3 years... maybe 4?

Is the lag from Teams or your connection? My skype & webex work better when i'm off VPN, but my IT department prefers I'm not off of it because of the other shit I have to access now.

Been a bad couple of weeks for musicians.

I have one vendor that uses WebEx exclusively. I liked my experience as the non-host.
Yeah, the security issue with Zoom is why we keep considering other options too. Surprised we haven't tried Teams again with how much we use its other functions.
