Maybe, I could see it having a little opposite effect too. They are putting more emphasis on conference champions so playing a great OOC early could really help your team prepare my moreso than a tune up game against an inferior opponent. Plus with 6 more at large spots it certainly is going to make it easier to get in with an early season loss if your team has a better SOS

Just trying to fully embrace the pointless regular season that those supporting a 12 team playoff will cause. There's absolutely no benefit to scheduling tough games.

Had Ohio State not played Va Tech in 2014 they might not have realized they were going to struggle against a Bear defensive set until it was too late. ND this year showed how much our young receivers would struggle finding a soft spot in a zone. Oregon last year exposed a weak run defense. Had we had a decent coordinator and some more experience in the LB position they probably could have made adjustments before Michigan exposed it again.

Being happy your team isnt playing any P5 teams whole playing three atrocious G5 teams is kinda sad

False. Ohio State beat a pre-season top 6~ish team, Michigan beat literally one of the worst teams in CFB. Ohio State dropped in the rankings. Michigan rose in the rankings. That might help them at the end of this year, maybe. But certainly won't do squat once the 12 team playoff is in place.

And the evidence already exists before the playoff rankings are anywhere close to coming out. UGA jumped OSU to start the season for absolutely no reason, even though OSU had a win over a top 6 team and Georgia had a dominate win over a top 15 team.

Huh? Notre Dame isn't a top 6 team and Oregon isn't a top 15 team....

Preseason rankings are garbage and don't mean anything

They based this weeks rankings based on that weeks rankings. So they do matter in that context.

But even more importantly, ND is still ranked in the top 10 and Oregon is...unranked. So the same voters who thought Oregon wasn't a top 25 team, valued Georgia blowing them out more than OSU beating a team they re-ranked in the top 10.

ND is still a top 10 team according to the same voters who jumped UGA above Ohio State for beating a team those same voters now say isn't a top 25 team....
 
Some teams get the benefit of the doubt.
Some teams don't.

If the teams that 'don't' would have spent the last hundred years improving their brands, that shit wouldn't happen today.

Go and make a top 25;where you disregard rankings and base it off performance alone the top 10 really won't be crazy different I guarantee it.

But they only do if you think Oregon was a quality opponent. If you think Oregon is an average team now, and you think ND is still one of the best teams, then Ohio State's looks better.

Ohio State didn't look better regardless of opponent you can see mistakes the rank of the team they play doesn't matter

I understand what you are saying, but I still rather play one top rated team, one good G5 team and Colorado State, Hawaii or UConn for the OOC Games. Just different philosophies.

I think this used to be true, pre-BCS; or even a little during it. You had to win style points. Those days are gone.
 
They just have to go on TV, kick the shit out of Louisville for a few hours, and they’re golden.

The currently ranked teams are all more than welcome to shit down their pantlegs and step on their own dicks en masse. But at this point it’s not a requirement for my team.
