Dabo gettin paid

This might be harsh, but I just laugh at Clemson when they put these clauses in Dabo's contract trying to stop him from one day going to Alabama.

Feels minor league.

Good for him though, guy has given his all to Clemson and I'm not sure why he'd ever leave.

Ok. Now make the big money decision and bench DJ

Here is my deal on Dabo who is a great person and one of the good guys in CFB and there aren’t many.

Honestly it feels like he is the downside of his career if he doesn’t embrace the transfer portal and NIL which he seems reluctant to do. Even Saban embraces them even though he hates them.

This could be a situation like FSU was in with Bobby Bowden. Everyone loves Bobby but he was probably there 5 years too long.

Economically this is a tough contract for Clemson with their conference payout that they are stuck with until 2036.

Most coaches and even the great ones in the modern age have a shelf life of about 10 years max in most cases. Spurrier, Fulmer and Dye are examples. Do you really want to turn Dabo into Joe Peterno?

I think this is an AD covering his ass and not doing what is best for the program long term.

As.of now, they still have a top five roster in CFB when it comes to sheer talent. That Klubnik kid looked pretty good Monday and fans seem to be high on him. DJ is definitely not the answer so maybe benching him and getting the new blood could revitalize the offense cause the defense is still good.

Now 5 or 6 years from now? Who knows if he sticks to his guns when it comes to transfers and NIL

I'm not saying fire him but I definitely wouldn't lock him up for 10 years and live in fear Bama was going to steal him.

I'd be ok with a 5 year new deal (pay him 9mm a year) with a sliding scale of buyout as each year rolls off. The 10-year deal is a lifetime contract at this point and if he digs his heals in there is nothing you can do.

Here is the thing with Dabo he could retire right now and easily make 2mm a year in analyst work, speaking engagements, sitting on boards and more than likely could triple that with investments that boosters would put him in. He has all the money he will ever need now and he has been there 15 years so go out on top, have the field named after him, a statue put up and live the life of local hero for the rest of your life. That isn't in Nick Saban's DNA but Dabo could walk away and volunteer with disadvantaged kids and live a very fulfilled life from what I know of him.

Hell in 5 years he will be eligible for full state retirement through South Carolina and that will be a chunk of change after what he has put in.

lmao @ these SEC dorks having wet dreams about the NIL and portal sinking Dabo

I don't mind the 10 year contract but I think the clause about taking the Bama job is silly. Like you said, more than anything I think Dabo would just call it quits before going somewhere else or to the NFL. Wouldn't surprise me if Dabo retires before 2032
