We skeered ...

It certainly helped that Bama almost lost.

I tend to think the matchups\team rankings sell themselves better than networks, etc.

A team in the top ten is going to get views, especially if they are struggling. They could be called "Your Momma State" or "Boring State" and still get views if they are in the playoff hunt.

First and foremost are the teams, absolutely.

Still helpful that you posted. A lot of rumors out there.

I am still leaning at 2024 being the year. I think 2023 is still too aggressive (frankly we will find out before end of season if 2023 is going to happen). 2025 just seems too late as well. I think they would buy out the 2024 year to get things going.

The rumors as to why Big12 may want OU and Texas gone is to make room for additional teams from Pac12. Still just rumors.
2023 can't happen as the new SEC deal won't be in place and there wouldn't be money to pay schools out.

In theory, 2024 could happen but who is going to fund this "buyout"? The SEC isn't going to do it because that would be cash that could be distributed to the schools and no one is going to agree to receive less. I guess Texas and OU could buy themselves out but collectively that would be 42 million each so 80 million total going by last year's distribution. I don't see anyone ponying up that money and I don't see the B12 taking less and honestly contractually could demand all 75mm each that TX and OU would earn from the SEC in 2024.

This just isn't a good deal for the B12 and they would be idiots to allow a buyout and the SEC would be idiots to pay out just to move everything up a year. I just don't see it happening.

Just opinion/speculation here on my part:

I think the logistical situation of OU and Texas staying in the Big12 is starting to create some headaches for both parties (especially with Big12 expanding). OU and Texas could in theory make more money if they get a favorable buy-out, move to the SEC, and kill it even better than expected on ticket, merchandise sales, etc. The TV money will have to be turned over per GOR (unless OU and Texas ignore payout which would be funny. They would obviously get sued and it would be curious to see how the court process goes).

The one item that has to be watched is fate of Pac12. If Pac12 dies and Big12 grabs teams from Pac12, they now have to navigate scheduling with 12+4 potential Pac12 teams + OU & Texas for two years. That is 18 teams.

Rumor is that the new Big12 AD is using OU/Texas situation to leverage a better contract from ESPN and letting OU and Texas exit early in return.

The one that will decide whether OU and Texas leaves early maybe fate of Pac12. IMO, Pac12 got a boost for surviving with expansion playoff. No way a Pac12 team makes it to playoffs prior to expansion but they are likely in after expansion. Pac12 will need to figure out how to get a semi-decent TV deal.

Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis. The worst one of all! Make up your damn mind already

I'm an old traditionalist, but I've never been a fan of the RRSO and WLOCP. While there is a lot of hype around both, I think it deprives players of the experience playing at their rivals home stadium. I mean the Sooners get to visit Lubbock every other year but not Austin. WTH? Same with Texas. They get the experience of playing in Manhattan, KS but not Norman. JMO.
RRSO should never be a home and home series.. that atmosphere is better than what they can expect on the road or at home. It's unique and is one of the better things about CFB
Conspiracy Theory Time!

Greg McElroy said on the radio this morning that it's possible canceling the Georgia vs Oklahoma game is a big FU to CBS. Texas vs Alabama pulled in a 10mm+ rating for FOX and it's safe to assume that Georgia vs Oklahoma would do similar numbers so it is not out of the question that the SEC wants to delay this rating juggernaut for their new package.

I don't know that I buy into this 100% but it is a compelling theory.
McElroy is an idiot and gets his takes from reading SECrant threads or reddit

ESPN is not stupid, they are just not reliable as a CFB median (at least not anymore). They have been all about saying controversial things to get hits and focus on entertainment over substance for years now.

It’s definitely a weird situation where:

UCLA & USC join the B1G in July 2023.

Big 12 adds their group of teams August 2024.

New SEC Network deal goes into effect 2024.

I didn’t consider the issues that the B12 had with so many schools coming in and 2 halfway out the door. So if ESPN steps up then that solves the buyout issue. I just wonder what the B12 number is because it’s obvious the PAC is getting squeezed for less.

It is more than just football games if you have been paying attention. OU basketball dropped out of Battle of Atlantis for 2023 because Arkansas was in that tournament (you can't have two teams from same tournament so it is very suspicious. If your 2025 is still correct, explain that one? Why quit a 2023 Basketball Tournament?
possible a just in case and Ark signed on first.
if you are the tournament do you wait and see and only have a couple months to fill the spot or do you reach out to make sure you have a good replacement and not just the 8th place team from a mid major?
