Not going to disagree.I would say owning one of those dogs when there are children in the house is irresponsible on its face.
We had a Rott when my son was born. He was never allowed on the floor with the dog even though she would never hurt a fly. When he was about 1 she went blind in an eye from undiagnosed canine diabetes and we had her put down. Could have given her shots and kept her around for a few more years but too dangerous with a kid learning to walk. All it would take is falling at the wrong time to get a bite. Hardest decision I ever made, but was the right one.I would agree wholly and completely with this. I was very specific on the breeds we would have with small children. Labs worked well for us.
Absolutely no pit bulls, sheppards, rots and dobbies. And none of those little fuckers for sure.
The dog I had from when I was 3 until I was 21 bit my little cousin one time when she was around 5 and the dog was 12. She had it coming though. Grabbing his ears and blowing in his nose that she kept doing after his warning growls and everyone telling her to stop. Her mom said let the dog bite her to teach her a lesson. Only time I’ve heard of a dog biting a kid without the dog getting in trouble. I’d probably bite someone too under those circumstancesWe had a Rott when my son was born. Yup, people think dogs understand that kids are stupid. But something small and wobbly walks up to a dog and hits it in the face or grabs its tail without warning and reactions are going to happen. Not excusing the dog, that's on the adults. The dog I had from when I was 3 until I was 21 but my little cousin one time when she was around 5 and the dog was 12. She had it coming though. That is a tough ass decision to have to have to do. Good on you seeing it needed to be done though. We had a Rott when my son was born. Had she been 3 or younger, it wouldn’t have got to that point, but she was 5 and old enough to know better. Only time that dog ever bit anyoneYup, people think dogs understand that kids are stupid. Yeah it was tough but we knew a blind Rott with a kid stumbling around the house and making noise is a bad idea. Rather safe than sorryThat is a tough ass decision to have to have to do. Good on you seeing it needed to be done though.
I think most people that end up getting family hurt in situations like this just suffer so much from sentimentality. “Fur babies” and all.
I love my dog to death. And he’s not a tough breed at all for such things, but if he were and I had a small one around he would have to go. There is just no other way.
I’m not going to be that fool on the news saying “he/she was the sweetest thing” when I knew I was taking a gamble.
I had a dobie bite me when I was around 5 or so. Was definitely a warning bite - he basically put my entire forearm in his mouth and was like, "bitch, i said STOP IT!" but didn't munch down. I stopped whatever I was doing for a little while, but I'm sure I poked at him later. Kids are so dumb.
Which is why they are all "boxer mixes" when you tell insurance about them.
Funny thing is my current dog is all three of those breeds Dole pointed out. 50% pit, 25% doberman, and like 5% Rott.
I was taught to grab the wind pipe and crush or twist it. Hard to do with your arm in their mouth.Guy taught me years ago that if you're down and being mauled by a vicious dog, focus entirely either on getting your fist down that motherfuckers throat or rip his balls off. Whichever is more accessible, go for it.
You made me go sign in and find it. I was slightly off with the exact numbers, close enough

What's the other 20%?
The best way to fend a charging dog is to get down on one knee so you can brace yourself, extend your non-dominant arm in front of you horizontally and bent at the elbow to give the dog something to bite into, and then when it locks in rotate your fist straight up exposing the throat and attack its throat.I was taught to grab the wind pipe and crush or twist it. Biggest pussy dog you've ever met. Looks like a lab from far, a doberman when standing over her, and a Pitt when she looks up or opens her mouth. Pretty crazy.Holy shit.
