ESPN & FOX Agree To Start Early Big 12 Deal Talks

yep, that's what i am gathering.. him throwing out Amazon by name shows... that he's looking for anyone to use as a bargaining chip to get more money. People laughing about the low ball offer to the PAC, and automatically think Big12 is getting much more when it's probably not.
we pretty much been saying it since it all opened up that it would be unlikely the Big XII would be getting more than the Pac. that the 4 corners didnt garner more money where the distribution between more schools didnt even out.
I also think that for especially Utah who just won the Pac 12 last year and was in the championship game 3 years ago it was a harder sell after the playoff expansion talks came out.
why change conference when they know they can win the one they are in and have a shot at the expanded playoff?
all three of the other schools also won the south at some point so they too may have said staying made more sense.

FOX and ESPN know what they offered to the PAC and I wouldn't expect them to be higher than those numbers. However, the PAC is complicated because some of the schools are not interested in a long-term GOR and the Networks want an out clause if schools leave. At this point those seem to be huge sticking points.

The Big 12 doesn't have these concerns and if anything they will want language if they add schools but again that is complicated since the networks will not want them to just be any schools.

I get why the Big 12 went in early because schools like AZ, ASU and Utah want numbers to compare to but it maybe too early for the networks to truly commit. However the Big 12 might have gotten some ballpark figures they can share with potential adds and if they are comparable to what the PAC is offering then it might be enough.

This part of the game is leverage and the leverage schools like AZ and ASU have is they tell the PAC we want even revenue sharing or we will go to the Big 12 and make the same money with equal standing. This essentially kills the PAC at that point.
the funny thing about equal revenue sharing is that it was the press, that even first suggested that Oregon and or Washington might ask for greater share with no sound backing that either had even considered it.

I figured Yormark would have gotten numbers with and without adding schools. And maybe he did. It just feels like he was disappointed ether way. Hope I’m wrong.

the hard part for both conferences is what they got based on who they have now vs what they were offered based on who they will have then and the numbers dropped prob like 10-15

I've posted it before ... if Ore and Wash aren't willing to go for a medium term GOR, I'd bail to a conference where they care about football and have fans who care about football. B12 + ASU, UA, UU, and a 4th team >$ PAC as it exists today with members willing to jump in a second.

yes but based on recent announcements the Pac schools like Oregon, Washington and Stanford should just accept that while an invite may still come, its not happening soon. Warren saying he hasnt hit pause but focusing on other projects. working out travel and such. Says could eventually see going to 20. my guess is see how it goes with USC and UCLA first. so if they do it wont be for at least 5 years. so why not sign a 5 year GOR?

OD confirmed he wants unequal revenue sharing so I definitely sourced it.

@duckboy33 isn't going to be happy because that would kill his coast-to-coast national conference that he was 99.999999% sure was going to happen. From what you are saying he probably needs to go on that apology tour he promised.

I’m afraid you aren’t wrong. Both conferences are going to be disappointed IMO. And I think they wouldn’t get any more per school if they were one huge 22 team conference!

Agree 100%, no chance they are getting anyone to raise that number per school wether they are 10 schools or 20.

Soooo.... No chance that one BIG "Sisters of the Poor" conference is gonna happen??? :rolleyes2:

:pop2: :martini:

my best guess is both will be close to 25. could be higher with multiple sources. lucky to break 30

I gave you my time frame. I never claimed it would happen by October

Reported by Brett McMurphy:

Basically so the Big 12 will have numbers to talk with members of the PAC 12 so they can evaluate if they are staying or going. The actual article is behind a paywall so I don't have many details but the jest is the Big 12 wants to be able to talk numbers with schools who are interested and they can compare them to the PAC deal minus USC & UCLA.

I'm not sure how they do that with the rumors of other schools going to the B1G like Oregon, Washington, Cal and Stanford but I'm betting if they are starting negotiations then schools like Utah, Arizona, ASU and Colorado are asking specific questions.

There are also rumors out there that the PAC is considering tiering their payouts so Oregon and Washington can get more of a cut and I'm betting that is pissing people off and making them interested in looking around. Oregon and Washington might just be killing off the PAC inadvertently because if just two more schools leave for the Big 12 everyone else will scramble to get in and the hope of keeping the PAC alive is dead.

This site often works to get around paywalls.

Pac made just under 20 mil per school in 20/21. 21 was like 33 mil. losing LA i would bet they will be lucky to land between 25 and 30
Big XII was getting more per year but now will have more schools and money decrease from no OK TX. honestly i think the numbers will be a push and i cant see the Big XII in any way being able to offer 4 corners any more money than what they will get in the Pac.

The estimate was that the B12, PAC and ACC would be at a total of $50 - 55 million-ish.

So, if they come in with TV at 25-30 million, they need to get another 400 million from the CFP. The per conference payout now is about 75 million per P5 conference. It will go up 3-4 fold, so they could get in the 250-300 million range from the CFP. That would put the per team payout, with other bowl revenue, at close 40-50 million. Throw in the conference championship game, and you can see were a target of $50 million is attainable. But it won't get close to the $110+ million the SEC and B1G are going to get.
