It is Mid-October and there are over 10 teams still in serious contention for the Title

Are we really pretending that Ole Miss is legit possibly a elite team?

They just got gashed by a awful Auburn offense.

Vandy put up 28 on them.

They had to escape Tulsa.

Their record/ranking is much more of a product of them not really playing anyone that good rather than them being legit a great team.

I am leaning heavily towards SEC only getting 1 team this year. I am a little high on UCLA right now just because they got a very favorable schedule and the Pac12 is a strong enough conference that they could get in with even a loss.

The SEC is more thank likely getting 2 unless 2 other P5s end up with undefeateds.

I think the B1G will have a undefeated, but i'm not counting on any of the other conferences current undefeated teams to go the distance with 0 losses.

There's no way they are putting a 1 loss UCLA in over Bama/UGA or even Tennessee if that was the competition for the last spot.

Here is what the 12-team bracket would look like if we had the highest-ranked team in the conference as the conference champion.

Lets go ahead and swap UCLA with Alabama. Force all SEC teams into the same side of the bracket

No, you are not doing it right. You are too rational. CFP selection should be based on history, reputation, perception, popularity, beauty……

There is absolutely no reason to play out a complete season on the field in order to select. Doing it on paper is better.
It's funny you say this, but when we advocate for 12 teams because "who really knows" we get "it's a money grab" and "there will be a bunch of blowouts" and "these are participation trophies." It can't be both ways ... either history, reputation, perception, popularity, beauty come into play - they shouldn't - or we should welcome a 12 team CFP so that it can be decided on the field. Thankfully, rational minds are in control - hard to say about the NCAA - but on this one they are doing a great job.

Here is the SEC nightmare - UTjr beats Bama - check; UGA beats UTjr; Bama beats UGA in the SECCG. Now who goes? Bama for sure as the SECC. Probably UGA depending on what everyone else does. UTjr is left out in that scenario for losing to UGA and not making the CCG.

If they beat us they are.

I've not been a believer in Bama's defense this year. But what other teams have a D that can stop or slow down UTjr? They can score some points. Also, wonder how much of an advantage the home field was. That was a crazy environment to play in. Will be the opposite in Athens. They beat us in Athens, they are going to the CFP even if Bama beats them in Atlanta.
Bama has the front 7 to win a title, but the back end and Golding are liabilities. They just don’t have lockdown corners (they are young) and Golding constantly leaves them on an island. He is going to rush 5 most the time. It is easy for better OCs to isolate defenses in that secondary. I saw in the first half in the Texas game (Ewers went down and that was the end of the deep ball for Texas). You saw Tenn constantly get 1 in 1s for deep throws. Golding needs to mix some things up. make it harder to guess what coverage looks the offense will get. I’ve watched him several times the last 3 years and anytime Bama struggles he just blitzes more (A&M game last year, cover 0 blitz on the game winner for A&M). Nothing easier for a QB to beat than man (unless you have studs), if you don’t get there. I have the similar complaints about Pk and Texas defense

Actually, I think a worse scenario is Tennessee beats Georgia. Georgia goes 11-1. Tennessee makes Atlanta and gets beat by Alabama.

Alabama is 12-1
Tennessee is 12-1
Georgia is 11-1

I think there would be a HUGE debate between Georgia and Tennessee because Georgia is defending Champion.

In your scenario, if Tennessee loses to Georgia and both Alabama and Georgia only have a single loss, Tennessee is NOT going to the playoffs.

That would suck

The sooner the committee realizes the best 4 teams in the country every year are all gonna be from the SEC, the better. Sorry, but slow Midwestern farm kids just can’t keep up

I think that depends on the loss(whoever wins) if its close like Bama/Tenn then the loser doesnt fall as far as they will if there is some sort of blowout. then you got 3 games to make up ground. UGA has ranked teams to do so. tenn does not.
also a matter of what happens around them in the other conference championships.

If you are a playoff contender, you are a national title contender. I am not sure why there is a distinction right now. You only need to win 2 games in the playoff. Sure, there are teams we think don't have a chance and look like long shots.

At no point last year was Cinci a title contender.

If you don't understand why there's a distinction, watch more football.

while that could happen from time to time that is not the norm

Dream scenario for Tennessee would be for Tennessee to win out, Ole Miss to beat Alabama and win the West and Tennessee get a rematch with Kiffin in Atlanta and go 13-0. That is the dream season leading into playoffs. I don't think Tennessee wants to see Alabama a second time. (I personally think Tennessee has to beat Kentucky AND Georgia to be a true playoff contender. That's not going to be easy).

Also, don't count out the B1G getting 2 teams. The loser of the Michigan-Ohio State (especially Ohio State if they lose) is going to get some love and if that is a very close lose, the argument will start.

I personally think that if Tennessee loses to Georgia, they are out. Alabama with a single loss will get in over Tennessee if they win the SEC. If Alabama isn't in the picture, the loser of the Michigan-Ohio State likely gets in over Tennessee.

I do think there is going to be at least one team out there (if not more) that is going to get screwed. I am expecting some controversy this year.

To be safe, this is a year you really need to be unbeaten.

When you type "awful Auburn offense" I'm going to need you to do it with more respect, please.
