To the Nebraska fans on the board

I don't think that's a good way to win consistently. It's a good way to have a single good year or two. Often times the kids on the transfer block are there for a reason.
But it is your only way if your school/team doesn’t have the “swag” to get that elite talent coming right out of high school.

“Developing” three stars for 3-4 years still means you are playing against better talent…just a few years later. Right?

It isn't ideal for long term domination maybe, but again it can get you up of the mat and make higher level recruits take a more serious look at you.

As to location making it never work, that's kind of BS. Sure, in a tie a kid might lean to a beach school with bikinis everywhere over an inland corn town, but schools have risen up with great coaches.

I don't like the portal myself, but there is no denying that it can work to flip a program. Kids want to play and be seen. They don't want to ride the pine and wait their turn. They'll drop to a G5 to be seen. There is zero reason they wouldn't flock to Nebraska under the right coach.

Cool tidbit that @trojanfan12 might appreciate. The last two plays of the game Saturday were totally the result of Southern Cal Transfers. Bru McCoy with that final catch at the 20 and then Chase McGrath (the kicker) was a transfer from USC.

Yeah, I caught that watching the game. You're welcome. lol

I had forgotten where they went. That's one of the cool things about the portal, imo. It can accelerate a teams rebuild.

For USC, our leading rushers, receivers and obviously the QB were from the portal. You guys just had a couple of guys from the portal seal a huge win.

I look at it as being similar to free agency in professional sports.

I wouldn't want to try to build a team that way (certainly not every year), but it can be a great way to fill holes in your roster.

USC arguably has benefitted from the portal more than any other program and Lincoln Riley has said that pulling that many from the portal is a 1 time deal because he needed to make a lot of changes and got a late start recruiting.

It's good for things like a team losing their #1 wide receiver, they don't have anyone who's ready to take over that role but are able to find one in the portal.

The portal is the portal but I think there should be limits because it's gotten ridiculous.

What I hate is with NIL the portal is about to become an auction block for the best players. It is probably already happening (and I'm betting in basketball more than football because that sport has always been dirtier but just got less attention) and it hasn't been made public. 2 years from now guys are going to be doing interviews and say I went to Bama because they gave me 50K more than Ohio State.

This is why we have to make changes.

I’d bet on Rutgers to be a perennial bowl team before I’d put money on Nebraska to be.

I know Schiano can win there. And he doesn’t have to play Illinois every year.

I don't know that there will be a dumber post in this thread than ^^ that one, but I'll keep reading.

Schiano literally lost to Nebraska's 'interim' HC last week in Piscataway (PissedThatAway), NJ.

One game.

Longterm, it’s you or them for basement program in the conference. And I know Schiano can win there. I’ve seen it.

Bo Pelini ain’t walking thru your door.

Thank God for that.

Also, Schiano lost to the guy that the interim coach replaced.

Twice.

You tell yourself whatever it is you need to tell yourself, dummy.

Schiano's in his third season at Rutgers, has 16 years of head coaching experience, with two of those in the NFL.

Mickey Joseph beat him in NJ with one game under his belt as a head coach.

I’m not telling myself anything.

I’ve seen Schiano run a winning program at Rutgers. So have you.

Can't wait 'til the Huskers fans and NewPhone see this thread.

There is nothing left to say -- Nebraska fans have already conceded -- their days of being nationally elite are over. I don't have anything else to say about Nebraska until they hire Mickey Joseph to be their full time coach. Then I will post my usual, told you so. :beer2:

Congratulations. You've won dumbass of the thread going away.

Even maze&blew forgetting to log in as WhoPhoneDis couldn't best you.
A Husker fan refusing to accept futility isn’t really capable of putting me down.

I do appreciate your defensive passion though. Along with the balloons and the orphans, it’s what sets your program apart.

USC benefited from the portal because they signed away one of top young offensive coaches, who brought along, a bunch of players from Oklahoma, including Caleb Williams.

That isn't the norm for the portal. If you are building a roster thru the portal, you are usually getting guys who couldn't get on the field for their current programs.

Now USC brought in a TON OF ELITE. So it definitely worked for them, but you aren't going to see that type of haul again for a long time.

I see you are having fun with my friend Red Alert. Be careful, when you start using facts on him, he gets upset.

I'll accept that Schiano is 0-2 against Frost and the interim HC.
I'll accept that Rutgers is 0-5 against Nebraska since they've been in the Big 10.

You need to stop being bashful and accept your dumbass of the thread award.
