To the Nebraska fans on the board

I'll accept that Schiano is 0-2 against Frost and the interim HC.
I'll accept that Rutgers is 0-5 against Nebraska since they've been in the Big 10.

You need to stop being bashful and accept your dumbass of the thread award.
So much passion over who is the rightful doormat.

Much respect for all your effort.

KMart sucks.

Like both of the most recent BIG additions.

USC benefited from the portal because they signed away one of top young offensive coaches, who brought along, a bunch of players from Oklahoma, including Caleb Williams.

That isn't the norm for the portal. If you are building a roster thru the portal, you are usually getting guys who couldn't get on the field for their current programs.

Now USC brought in a TON OF ELITE. So it definitely worked for them, but you aren't going to see that type of haul again for a long time.

Which is pretty much what I said.

I don't know about a bunch of players from Oklahoma, Unless I missed someone, Riley brought 3. Although 2 of them were pretty important. lol

If the portal stays as it is, other teams will be able to perform a quick turnaround. Maybe not quite as fast or as much in one off season as it looks like USC has, but faster than just pure recruiting.

A big part of USC's success in the portal was some really good timing. They are a blue blood who was trying to get back to prominence and they hired a top 5 coach. There was also a lot of talent in the portal.

The problem if a team is trying to depend on the portal too much is that much like free agency in professional sports, the level of talent will not be consistent. Even this past off season, I think part of why there was a lot of talent in the portal was what went on at USC.

USC had several very good players enter the portal (Kedon Slovis, Jaxson Dart and Bru McCoy among others) either before Riley was hired or when they learned there wasn't a role for them. Then there were a few from other schools who entered specifically to transfer to USC and likely aren't in the portal otherwise.

Won't always have that type of situation feeding the portal.

The portal is the portal but I think there should be limits because it's gotten ridiculous.

What I hate is with NIL the portal is about to become an auction block for the best players. It is probably already happening (and I'm betting in basketball more than football because that sport has always been dirtier but just got less attention) and it hasn't been made public. 2 years from now guys are going to be doing interviews and say I went to Bama because they gave me 50K more than Ohio State.

This is why we have to make changes.

Most seem to think there will be changes. I have heard Lincoln Riley, several current coaches and several former coaches all say that there need to be changes because there don't seem to be a lot of rules around it right now.

I know USC dragged their feet on an NIL collective because they just weren't sure about all of the potential ramifications and even then, they were still accused of "outbidding" other schools for players in the portal. lol

A good start, imo, would be limiting the number of times a player can enter the portal...Bru McCoy committed to USC, then de-committed to go to Texas, then left Texas to return to USC and is now at Tennessee.

Also with college, you have much shorter time periods to win with that talent, opposed to the NFL. Bunch of guys might transfer in to one school, but then they don't really gel, don't win a title, and they're fighting each other for PT, they might leave just as quickly as they arrived.

Yes -- it was only 3 (but when you add in the recruits for the upcoming year -- it is 6, i believe), but it is 2 guys you'd never have a chance for in the Portal unless you have the unique situation USC found themselves in, essentially swiping a top 5 coach from another Blue Blood. It isn't something you see in CFB. Then once you had Lincoln Riley, Caleb Williams and Mario Williams -- you had everyone's attention in the portal. That got Jordan Addison to make the jump. These are all guys you just don't see in the portal normally.

I can't even pretend to tell you about any of the other portal guys you signed -- I truly only know about the big name guys I mentioned.

I will say this -- USC is entertaining to watch. I stayed up and watched the entire USC/UTAH game and I never stay up to watch PAC games. It was a great game.

2 of my favorite current players were from the portal...Shane Lee (LB from Bama) and Eric Gentry a linebacker from ASU. Gentry is 6'7" 200 lbs. and has a 7'1" wingspan. He has presented all kinds of problems for QB's.

Hated that we lost, but yeah, it was a great game. Imo, USC hasn't been this much fun to watch since Pete Carroll.

I saw that guy. I couldn't believe you had a middle linebacker (that looked like where he was playing) at 6'7" and 200 lb. That is crazy to me. He looked slow, but i'm sure it is because his strides are so damn long, he doesn't have to move his legs fast.

Never seen that either. Somehow, he makes it work for the most part. He seems to do it by basically finding creases and gaps to slip through. There were a couple of plays in the Utah game where he prevented a long run by slipping through a gap and then using his length to grab the runners foot and trip him up.

It's also fun watching QB's get frustrated because they're having passes tipped in areas of the field where it doesn't usually happen. 2 or 3 of the ints. USC has gotten this year were because of that.

Fun fact for Nebraska fans, Adrien Martinez is the only starting QB in college football without an interception.

I will help you with this one. It is Scott Frost's fault. He was out drinking, showed up late, didn't care. Therefore -- Adrian Martinez threw interceptions.
You are welcome.

Jumping into the entire Nebraska\Rutgers fight (which is just flat out trolling to say Rutgers would win more).

Why is Rutgers even in the B1G? That has to be the worse conference expansion candidate ever. If you wanted New York, why not grab Syracuse? At least they bring high level basketball and they are a far better football program than Rutgers historically.

Yes... I know Syracuse is at the top of New York state and not near New York City but is still the same state and they could grow into that market. Knoxville isn't close to Nashville or Memphis but Tennessee still has large fan support in those areas.

Syracuse is a longer drive to NYC than State College PA is. And the BIG plays skool.

And Rutgers being in a better position than Nebraska moving forward is far from trolling. This isn’t the mid 90’s.

Rutgers is NOT in a better position than Nebraska in anything. Even if they had similar talent, Rutgers has to play Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and (when they are good) Michigan State every year. That is already 4 big Ls. I also think Rutgers isn't as good as Maryland as well so 5 Ls. Then they probably lose 1-2 of their B1G West teams and like most garbage B1G teams lose an OOC game to a Sunbelt team so they are 5-7 at best.

You are literally trolling trying to put Nebraska and Rutgers in the same breath. Nebraska is not going 3-9 with their new coach. Scott Frost was a dumpster fire similar to Chad Morris at Arkansas. Nebraska just held onto him way too long.

Rutgers has people near it. Tens of millions of people.

Lincoln is in the middle of nowhere and has sucked since every recruit was about 8 years old. They have one winning season between their last two head coaches.

You can have faith that Mystery Coach X will perform miracles. I’m gonna go with Greg Schiano.

Nobody in NYC watches or cares about Rutgers. I would wager there are more Syracuse than Rutgers fans in NYC. There are definitely more Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, etc. Fans than Rutgers. Heck, there are probably more Tennessee fans there.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there are more Nebraska than Rutgers fans in NYC.
