Volbound1700 Playoff Watch - Week 8

Where those games @ West Virginia or away? West Virginia seems to struggle on the road (granted, they have to travel long distance for every conference game).

I do agree they are the worse opponent remaining on TCU's schedule but that is a tough matchup for them.

They were both on the road.

Their great home offensive performances were against Kansas, Baylor & Towson though.

Baylor 57th in PPG allowed
Kansas 99th in PPG allowed
Towson a bad FCS team (2-5)

I guess TCU is 70th in PPG allowed though so it's not like they have a great defense.

WVU is 119th, lol.

I agree but man does this sent a bad statement for CFB. Oregon is getting punished for actually scheduling a tough OOC game. If Oregon had scheduled San Jose State in week 1 and won big, we wouldn't have this conversation.

That being said, I think Oregon drops a Pac12 game somewhere. The league is too deep for Oregon to go 9-0 in Pac12 play. (10-0 if you count Championship game which might be the game they lose).

I'm not sure if it's quite as bad as that. If Oregon had competed even a little bit they would still be in really good shape. They got blown out from the coin toss

Exactly,

I know the game was week 1 but it's a legit argument still that Oregon showed they couldn't compete at a top 4 level by getting just haplessly dunked on by UGA.

If the game had even been like 37-27 the argument would be different, but it was at no point competitive in any realm.

Worst case for Oregon is if UGA loses in the SECCG again and they have 1 loss. Oregon is out.

Oregon fans should be perfectly content with a P12 title.

Aspirations of playoffs can start next year

I agree but it should be noted that many playoff teams have gotten blown out by other playoff teams. Buckeyes lost by 38 points in a championship game. Did that mean Ohio State deserved to miss the playoffs?

I missed this championship game. When was this one?

2 losses. I am pretty sure the "in the hunt" is SEC West race and not playoff race.
If LSU wins out, including the SECCG, they are in with 2 losses. It's the thing few are talking about, but they look like a different team right now. I am not saying they will do it, but they get Bama at home, at night.

Oh no Gary straight up said they are in the playoff if they win out.
I agree with Gary ... they would have wins over Bama and UGA/UTjr. They would have won 7 in a row, and they would be the SECC. The CFP is designed for team who loses early to get better and better.

Losses have to count at some point though........even if they are early.

I think its a bit of a overreaction to LSU though. I think they are probably a decent 15-20 ranking type team. But Ole Miss was due to get exposed badly. LSU is still only a couple weeks off of getting absolutely whacked by Tennessee at home. They aren't on that level.

I still think they could upset Alabama at home but finishing the season 11-2 is unlikely.

I think it actually hurts them having a BYE week before the Bama game. You kind of lose some of that momentum you may have gained from beating on Ole Miss

Saban gets a BYE week to prep for them too. Which is always dangerous.

If they beat Bama its likely they finish the regular season with 2 losses. Arkansas and A&M are both road games but LSU has to be decently favored in both currently. I wouldnt call them sure wins by any means but good chance LSU wins both.

Those road games are still tricky. LSU may be favored but not by a ton. They'd also have to win in Atlanta, probably against Georgia.

I don't think they'd win the SEC title game against Georgia or Tennessee.

Texas A&M is a complete wreck right now. They might not win another game outside of Umass and maybe Auburn. (but Auburn is @ Auburn so i'm thinking they lose)

I don't think Arkansas is particularly good either, they stopped the bleeding a little by beating BYU after getting beat on by Bama and Mississippi State. But BYU is a 4-4 mess themselves at the moment.

Going on the road in college football is the ultimate wild card. Those are good enough teams to give someone like LSU problems IMO.

That may be true. If LSU does happen to beat Bama either of those teams beating them would be considered a major upset though.

Just to point out -- Game Day talked about teams with playoff aspirations. They went thru a handful of teams and when they were asked about Oregon's chances, they all laughed and then it was said, Oregon's only chance to make it to the CFP is if Georgia loses twice.

I think right now you pretty much assume the SEC & B1G champs are in.

It could get messy for the other 2 spots though.

If Clemson loses I think they and the ACC are out, they haven't looked nearly sharp enough to just get thrown in with 1 loss

I think the Big 12 champ has at least 1 loss. TCUs defense will keep them from finishing undefeated.

good chance the PAC champ has 1 loss, Oregon or USC. (maybe even UCLA)

Hard to see UGA getting left out even if they lose to Tennessee don't make the SEC title game. I think the only way they are left out in that case is if Clemson and the Big 12 champ are both undefeated.

UGA probably gets put in over Tennessee with 1 loss if Tennessee lost the SEC title game to Bama. Based on benefit of the doubt. Even though Tennessee would have the H2H

Doesn't that make Oregon's loss look worse? I would think Oregon needs Georgia to beat the shit out of everyone.
