GAME #6 Alabama @ #10 LSU ESPN

You cheated and multiple people testified against you guys. Also it was bad coaching hires like Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione (he was a good coach but left you like Kiffin did us), and Mike Shula.
DuBose was a horrible hire. Franchione was a good hire, but he wasnt much on the word integrity when it came to his own ass ass, just his players. He convinced a bunch of players to stick by him when the NCAA came calling, and then when they did, he bailed on them. His career ended up exactly as it should. He got to a high point with a Bama hire, and slinked off to lesser schools and obscurity from there. From there the brief stint by Mike(strip club) Price and then the kneejerk hiring of Shula eventually led to the GOAT getting a call.

Bama administration made a good choice in Mal Moore and his legacy will be that he got Nick Saban to come to Alabama. Mal was a top flight person on the field and off, and his death was a hard hit for Alabama. His hires included Franchione, Price(he fired him as quick as he hired him) Shula and Saban. The last solidified Moore as one of the best AD's Dama ever had.

Ultimately, it all comes down to coaches and the systems that they can build.

The irony is that our LSU win is now looking better on our resume than our Alabama win. Granted, Alabama was our biggest win of the season due to the emotion and history around it. I still think Florida was the second best win for same reason even if Florida has struggled this year.

In the off season, nick has some big decisions to make on offense and defense. I hope someone hires O'Brien away so Nick wont feel obligated to keep him, and I hope Nick can finally see what we all do, that Golding is a shit DC. Bama used be known for Defense, but last year and this year have shown(with top flight talent on the field) that Bama does not have a DC on its staff that can put together a defensive game plan.

They seem a step behind Georgia right now and LSU looks like they could legitimate close the gap with Brian Kelly given time.

Alabama also benefited from some of their rivals (most notably Tennessee) being complete shit for several years. If LSU and Tennessee start become real threats again to Alabama, they are going to have a harder time. They also got Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss right now which is another headache although I am not sure he is going to stay their long-term.

I am not sure about Jimbo Fisher. He looked like a threat at one-time but man that seems like a century ago now with the way they are playing.
Everyone is a step behind Georgia right now, but it isn't as if teams are burying Alabama. Even in a year where Bama is "down" -- it took a last second FG and a 2 point conversion to lose two games on the road.

Could LSU become legit under Kelly? Sure. They have a ton of talent in their state, but only time will tell. Tennessee is still going to be fighting an uphill battle. This was their year. Next year, they will lose what made them great this year -- Hooker, Hyatt and Tillman (not sure on who else), but that will hurt their offense.

Truth be told -- the SEC will continue to be Bama/Georgia, then everyone else. They simply bring in so much more talent than everyone else in the conference. The SEC, as a whole, is ridiculous with recruiting. Tennessee is 12th nationally right now for next year, yet they have the 6th ranked class in the SEC. That is crazy.

At least basketball starts Monday. It’s not like Alabama basketball has ever let me down.
😩😩

Alabama and Tennessee are a lot a like in Basketball. They are stellar during regular season but fold in March Madness.

I expect BOB to be gone no matter what, he's been mentioned for other jobs. However, if Golding is still here then we will know that Saban has accepted mediocrity.

The past few years Saban has chosen stability over ability and it has cost the program the past 2 years. Let's see if he's capable of another change and revamp or we're looking at the twilight years of the GOAT

I've been impressed by Barnes at UTK. Seemed like Texas fans were so glad to get rid of him

Hyatt is a sophomore, he will be back. We will lose several defenders but this was only year 2 of Heupel and was expected to be an 8-4 season by most people. Even I could not imagine an 11-1 season. We aren't top 5 but we are recruiting better and frankly have enough players to at least go 9-3 or 10-2 next year which is still a good season. With time, the gap can be closed.

Georgia wasn't even in the picture 3-4 years ago and Alabama will fall off eventually. The SEC wasn't Alabama and Georgia from 1993-2009. This stuff goes in cycles. This isn't the B1G team where you only have two major programs right now with Michigan and Ohio State and one of those programs has been the only consistent program for decades. SEC has a lot more power programs. Even in the span of the last 5 years, there has been an SEC team not named Alabama and Georgia that has won the league and won the National Title (LSU in 2009). Florida won the SEC East just 2 years ago and beat Georgia.

@NewPhoneWhoDis

I also think one direction we are heading back to (and it won't be fast) is a more even spread of blue chip athletes in the SEC. Alabama and now Georgia have had a strangle hold but as other programs start to rise, that could change quickly. I think NIL will impact some of that as well. It is much needed and the SEC could go back to how it looked from 2000-2010 with multiple teams in contention again.

2014-2016 was kind of rough because Alabama just dominated the league from a recruiting stand point. Kirby Smart's Georgia was the first one to start competing with Saban on recruiting.
But the reason WHY Kirby Smart can compete with Alabama recruiting is where he is located. They have signed like two dozen top 100 recruits just from the state of Georgia in the last 4 years. The reason why Alabama has the #1 class in the 2023 and Georgia is #2. Alabama got verbals from multiple 5 star recruits from Georgia.

I'd love to see more parity in CFB and see recruits spread out, but as you have seen -- not much has changed and NIL has been around for multiple years. A&M bought a class, but showed that buying a class doesn't mean much if you don't have the general to put them in a position to succeed.

He is having the same issues he had at Texas. The folds in March Madness. We continue to lose as higher seeds to lower seeds in March with him and only have a single Sweet 16 and no elite 8s. Bruce Pearl in the same span had 2 Sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8 although Pearl and Barnes were pretty even on regular season performance (Barnes might be better). That was why Texas hated and fired him. As a Vols fan, I will take it because you can always have that year with a breakthrough. He did have a FF year at Texas. He also has a winning record against Kentucky which drives their fans crazy.

Hyatt is a junior. He is gone. No chance he comes back with Hooker leaving and taking the chance the passing game struggles with whoever takes over at QB. He is a 1st or 2nd round pick right now.

Hmm Texas seems to have that problem in other sports too. Maybe know you're limits

In the SEC, as long as it's not UK then that's always good.

You are correct on Hyatt. It was only his second year at Tennessee, that got me confused. The one area we are loaded in and getting good recruits is WR. I think our offense will take a step down but not as bad as you think and 9-3 or 10-2 for next year is still very likely with Tennessee. It will depend heavily on how we do in the Swamp but here is our schedule next year:

Virginia (in Nashville) - Should be a win
Austin Peay - Win
at Florida - Toss-up although they are struggling right now as a program so a win is possible
UTSA - Win
South Carolina - Seems like a win but they are improving
Bye
Texas A&M - Who knows. They have out recruited us but they have to come to Knoxville and their program is a wreck right now
at Alabama - Loss
at Kentucky - Toss-up. This one could be a loss but Kentucky is losing a lot from this year as well so who knows.
UConn - Win
at Missouri - Tricky game but should be win
Georgia - Loss although I imagine the fans will be up for this game so you never know
Vanderbilt - Win

I am seeing at worse 7-5 or 8-4 but that could easily be 9-3 or 10-2 schedule even with the rebuild.

Where we are struggling in recruiting so far is defensive line and linebacker. We landed four 4* CBs so our secondary might be better in coming years. I do think Tennessee needs to finish strong in recruiting this year. 2024 class is already showing great signs and could be a top 5 class.

Yeah, one thing to consider about Barnes. He got Tennessee's first SEC Tournament win since the 1970s last year. That is something that Bruce Pearl did NOT do at Tennessee.

Tennessee, as a program, just has issues in March Madness. Don't pick us to make Final Four.

That is actually very surprising. And hey, March Madness is so unpredictable. I never thought I'd see Bama win the SEC, let alone regular season and tournament. I guess I can look forward to that now?

Oh no... you sound like a Tennessee fan now :dhd: . During our rough years, we still had Men's Basketball to lean on.

Interestingly, we are ranked or will be ranked in all four of the major sports right now (Men's Basketball we are #11 going into the season and beat Gonzaga in an Exhibition game, our Women are ranked # 5 preseason. They haven't released Baseball rankings but I am sure they will be ranked. I wouldn't be surprised if Softball isn't ranked as well).

@bamafan4evr12

I will say this, Nate Oaks plays a fun level of basketball. I was a little surprised that Alabama fired Avery Johnson because I thought he did alright there as well but Nate Oaks has brought Alabama basketball to a stronger level than Avery Johnson had it.
