CFP Rankings Nov. 15

Yep. The Texas game gave us an indication of such. Even though it was in Austin, Texas is a four loss team. It seems the masses elevated Texas toward Bama after that close loss. In reality it was Bama dropping more toward Texas.

The Texas A&M game too. Lol. If Dumbo isnt a idiot they lose that game.

Bama could probably beat any team in the country still on the right day, but they could also very easily lose to a mediocre team if they aren't operating well. They are that kind of team this year.

Bottom line, this year I don't think you could say Bama "for sure" would beat anyone in the top 10.

Would they "for sure" lose either? No, but their chances of losing are a lot higher than in previous years.

I think Tennessee's offense actually plays into our defense well. I'd much rather play them than UGA.
I don't think so at all. Tennessee's offense throws for more yards than Georgia and runs for more yards per game than Georgia.

Most people don't realize Tennessee has a top 25 rush offense as well. They run for almost 200 yards per game.

But in reality -- I'd rather play any team than Georgia right now. They can beat you any way you want to play. Defensively -- it doesn't matter if you want to play physical, they will beat you at your own game. It doesn't matter if you want to spread it out and wing it all over the field. They can still shut you down.

They are just such a complete team right now and it is crazy with all the talent they lost.

Agreed. Years past -- the game was over before it even started with Bama. This year, they have areas you can exploit and teams have done so. Does it mean it will be like that going forward? Absolutely not.

Tennessee is a finesse team more than anything, even when running. Our struggles lately have came against more power oriented teams.

True, but they have rushed for almost 2,000 yards this year. So they can line it up and run. If I had to choose between any team and Georgia though right now, I'm choosing the other team. :beer2:

I’ve seen them a couple of times on TV (which means I am no expert). Give me Alabama and points and I am happy (except against Georgia and Michigan - I never bet against Michigan *loyal*).
I'm not trying to talk betting odds or anything. Bama has a name so they're gonna get the benefit of the doubt a lot. I'm trying to figure out what they've done to make you think they're better than every team but one in the nation.

They sure bounced back well after their last "down year"

2019 they lost 2 regular season games and didn't make the SEC title game, the next year they rolled fairly unchallenged to the national title

Yep. Opponents have been concerned with stopping the pass. From what I understand, that offense runs the ball if the defense takes players out of "the box" and throws it if they stack "the box."

The answer is nothing.

They would have probably lost to Texas if Ewers didn't get hurt and they survived by the skin of their teeth to beat a bad Texas A&M team. That tells me they aren't clearly better or "for sure" beating anyone in the top 10-15.

This probably won't stop some from hailing them the GREATEST 2 LOSS TEAM OF ALL TIME! and claiming "Theyd be in the got damn playoff if they didnt play in the darn SEC GAUNTLET!!!" though.

I can see two firsts here. LSU can be the first two loss team in the CFP and the SEC can be the first conference to have three teams in the CFP. The SEC CCG very well could have an impact on every other conferences' chances of getting a team in the CFP....sans the B1G. They probably get a team in even if the East winner craps the bed in the CCG.

We won't get three teams. I get the vibe that LSU would get the Penn State 2017 treatment and get left out for Georgia and Tennessee. Exception would be if LSU was just impressive and dominated Georgia. That might be enough to get them over Tennessee. Committee will have a hard time justifying LSU getting over Tennessee when they lost to FSU and 40-13 to Tennessee in Baton Rouge.

There could also be a scenario where LSU wins and both LSU and Tennessee are left out.

Tennessee's SOS should give them the edge but I think name brand is also important. If Tennessee was named Alabama with its current resume, they are a lock to make it.

I think Ohio State and USC with 1 loss would both be a threat to Tennessee just because of their name. The committee would use some other criteria like "eyeball" test to put them in.

Relax, I am not an expert (just a fan ... a Michigan fan to be exact). It is just an opinion.

I tried to tell him before @Across The Field is kinda needy.

LSU winning would really cause a cluster fuck no matter what the CFP committee decided to do after. Lot's of people would be pissed no matter how they went with it.

They are probably really hoping UGA just wins, it makes their job a lot easier.

I think LSU would get in over Tennessee though.

Dude Tennessee is fucking 125th in pass D. Lol

They literally have a worse pass defense than EVERY TEAM on our schedule.

While I think Ohio State is a very tough matchup for Tennessee, the stat is misleading. They are also in top 25 on scoring defense. Basically they give up long third down plays sometimes on lucky passes when a blitz doesn't connect but they are not giving up a lot of points.

When it comes to points scored against Tennessee, this could be the best defense Tennessee has had since 2016 and it is actually one of the better defenses in the nation (current discussion on VolNation).

Secondary isn't great but it tightens up once you get into 20. Tennessee can be beat on big plays (seems like they give up the big plays more often on 3rd/4th down), but they can stop you if you underestimate them.

Now Ohio State is known to do big plays. The only teams that can match Tennessee are teams like Ohio State with explosive offenses or teams like Georgia who can get a huge home crowd advantage and have 5 star CBs that can win one-on-one matchups with our WRs. (I think Georgia might be the only team in the latter).

It's a sport chat forum, I'm just asking what you see from them that makes you think they're the second best team in the country. That's a very bold statement, so asking what makes you think that way seems pretty fair.

I know that I have a personal interest but I am not as confident in LSU chances. Already ESPN was stating that the LSU vs. Tennessee matchup would be hard for LSU to overcome and others who have access to the playoff committee have been saying similar things. It would be an interesting debate to see though.

The seeding would be fucky though.

If the final 4 were

B1G Champ
1 Loss UGA
2 Loss SEC Champ LSU
TCU

LSU would almost have to be the #4 seed and play Ohio State/Michigan. While UGA of course gets the "easier" matchup with TCU even though they just lost the SEC title game. Actually sets up nicely for UGA still. Go figure.

I think the issue is they are so bad against the pass but they've also only faced one top 25 passing attack all year. OSU would be a nightmare matchup for them (that said I also would not be looking forward to facing the Tennessee passing attack either).
