Lincoln Riley to the Falcons?

Just FTR, I haven’t heard any rumors about either side being interested in the other. If Lincoln wants to stay at OU, good for him, I just think the Falcons need to have him at the top of their list.

Worst he can do is say no.
He should just pull the trigger because it's got to be getting old watching the Transfer Portal 24/7 and praying he can get another one. If he is in the NFL then at least he can draft or trade for a QB.

Lot of similarities with GQ and Lincoln. Biggest difference was KK was at a place a lot harder to recruit to than Lincoln. Never seen Tech have a highly rated recruiting class. Huge difference IMO.
It’s all about Riley. I have no idea if he wants to challenge himself. That is a personal decision. It is much easier job to be a coach at a blue blood than to be a NFL coach

I imagine there is a lot more life balance because you take all the recruiting out of the equation. I don't understand why any of them would want to kiss the ass of 18 year olds to get them to come to your school. I would lose my mind.

Yep. The travel involved in college is brutal

It’s a trade off. Recruit and play 80% of your Games vs less talented teams. Go to the NFL and have to kiss millionaires asses and play most of your games vs equal talent

c'mon now. we all know damn well who'll be leading the Atlanta Falcons come next September. . .

In order to win, I would think so too. In the NFL you don't get the "pick of the litters" every year like a blue blood can with recruiting. Spreading that talent more broadly is different.

I'll see if I can find the Chuck Daley quote when he was with the Pistons. IIRC, he said something about it being like "dealing with 13 fortune 500 companies every day"...or something like that.

good thing in the NFL there are tiers of millionaire asses you may have to kiss.. If he nails the QB part down, the rest usually takes care of itself. He's been recruiting well...except on the defensive end. Guess he needs to really kiss more teen asses who play defense?

But in reality, it's all about control. Some coaches demand it when going to the NFL (Rhule), while others don't (Kliff). Saban sucked at it in Miami, but he had even more power at Bama and it's worked out very well for him.

disagree my friend, i don't want Riley anywhere near the Falcs, he's a complete fraud and not HC material :nonono:
Guess this means he'd really kill in ATL

Atlanta probably can't trade Ryan or Julio til 2022 with the cap hit and honestly I'm not sure we need an offensive coach . Offense has been good for 12 years. Atlanta needs a guy who can figure out how to stop other teams from scoring

I’m just so tired of Matt Ryan. The Seahawks game epitomized everything I don’t like about him. Throwing two yard passes on 3rd and 5. Taking a sack on 4th down. Not seeing Hayden Hurst wise open in the end zone that lead to having to go for it on 4th down to begin with

If we had a D we wouldn't need to score 30+ every game to have a 50% chance to win though . Ryan isn't elite but on the list of things wrong with the Falcons you'd need to list a shit ton of stuff before you get to Ryan .

That said I'm not opposed to a new QB but even if you draft one this year Ryan will still be the guy for a few years. Dead cap hit is too big to get rid of him.

If we get a top 2 pick I would personally love to trade back and get 3 or 4 good picks and revamp the D . We've got maybe 3 guys on D that would start for any other team in the league

The defense is the biggest problem no doubt. The o-line isn’t great either. I’d love to have a QB that can be mobile when needed. I don’t think this is gonna be a quick turnaround.

We need to trade Julio now though . His cap hit is big but not as big as Ryan's and I think you could still get a 2 for him. Add thst 2 to the picks thid year and trade the top pick for a 1 this year, a 1 next year and a 2 . Then you can really start the rebuild.

Of course we will probably instead go 8-3 the rest of the way and end up picking 14th and retaining Morris

Its what we do

If we can get a 2 for Julio, we’d be fools to not do it. He’s the GOAT Falcon, but at his age, you take a 2 if you can get him.

NB

my point was for air-raid offensive minded coaches there is a balance of power in the NFL that can save them from themselves. I have said when hiring someone like Riley for a college HC job, I would spend 75% of the interview asking him about his plans for the defense. I would say most coaches fail, because they failed on the other side of the ball. If you fail on your side, well you just aren’t good

a two for Julio?!? Well Jerry still makes the calls for Dallas, so maybe you are right?
