2022/2023 Hot Stove

Rangers still need more pitching depth. After deGrom it still isn't very good (Perez/Gray/Dunning/Otto), and it's hard to see Perez repeating his 2022 success.

And that's before accounting for deGrom throwing 156.1 innings the last two seasons. He's an amazing pitcher, but he's had trouble staying on the mound.

Don’t the rangers have too much money tied up elsewhere to even try to improve? This is a horrible deal for a guy that might get exposed in a hitter friendly park

I wouldn’t have given deGrom that many years. He’s already in his mid 30’s and injuries have really derailed him the last couple of years, and he really started to wear down towards the end of last season.

Red Sox signed Chris Martin to 2 yrs/$17.5M. I like it, especially when we've had a dearth of relievers with good command.

When you look at where the market seems to be for relievers, I also think it's easier to see the value in/reasons for the Teoscar trade. :noidea:

Idiot franchise deserves this

So, 2023 is the year Verlander starts showing his age? Scherzer sure looked old at the end of last season

4 years $71 mil for Taijaun Walker to the Phillies.

But like…why??

they did need a starter with Eflin and Gibson gone, but 4/$72M seems like a bit much for Walker. honestly I'd rather have Eflin, especially at 3/$40M.

Seems like an overpay, at least in the years. Especially if they're keeping Nola and Wheeler, and their three young guns develop. But Heaney is worse, and he got $12.5M/per. $18M per isn't goofy. Fourth year is a bit of a head scratcher, though.

I guess the per year isn’t nuts. Just seems weird to be giving a guy you’re looking to be a 4/5 guy that amount and for 4 years. Not the worst deal I’ve ever seen, but seems quite the stretch.

He'd be the 3 next season, but point taken in that the hope is he's at the back of the rotation by 2024. I guess maybe they hope he's a decent, controllable trade piece for someone next off-season?

You think he'd be 3 over Ranger?
