Because of realignment, the WAC and ASUN partnered in the 2021 season for a Challenge. The Challenge was abbreviated as "AQ7", as the top finisher of the seven teams would be an automatic qualifier for the FCS postseason. Both leagues conduct separate conference seasons.

I feel like SFA is the only very relevant team in the FCS out of this group.

I don't see this working but don't really care if they try.

UTRGV is a strange duck. It combined Pan American University in Edinburg with UT Brownsville...65 miles apart.

with the current moving landscape i could see them being competitive with the middle tier of the G5 schools.

but the other questions comes as if they do pull this off could the schools become targets for other expansion?

if the Pac expands going after MWC does the MWC then look at some of these or CUSA schools who fall in the footprint?
and if so how would it impact their status?

some grossly over looked items here are locations and what mascots will be added to FBS
coming up in the next 2 years are
Jacksonville State Gamecocks in Alabama making 2 teams with Gamecocks and a total of 5 schools in Alabama
Sam Houston State Bearkats in Texas now 13 schools in Texas. Bearcats and Bearkats same or different?
Kennesaw State owls in Georgia 4 Georgia schools and the 4th team called the owls.

as for the other schools possibly making a move

Abeline Christian wildcats in Texas
Austin Peay Governors in Tennessee
Central Arkansas Bears in Arkansas
Eastern Kentucky Colonels in Kentucky
North Alabama Lions in Alabama
Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks in Texas
Southern Utah thunderbirds in Utah
Tarleton State Texans in Texas
Utah Tech Trailblazers in Utah
and UT Rio Grande Valley once their football program takes off Vaqueros in Texas

this would bring the total of Texas schools to 17
5 schools in Utah
5 in Tennessee
3 in Arkansas

7 new original mascots
would move to
2 lions Penn state of course adds specificity of Nittany
3 bears Cal goes by "golden bears"
and 5 wildcats

this is clearly a tell me its a slow day at work without telling me its a slow day at work kind of thread

We fit better in the MWC than we have in C-USA. We're closer to UNM, Air Force, Fort Collins and Laramie than we are to Rice. And Rice is our 3rd closest game in C-USA.

with realignment
it will be New Mexico State, Sam Houston, La tech, Jacksonville, Kennesaw, Middle Tenn, Western kentucky, Liberty, FIU i think

i would probably argue Central Arkansas as the "best" among these schools

I say we give these guys an auto bid into the CFP as well.

how do you figure?
I follow South Dakota State a bit and the FCS power teams are largely the same most years and I don't recall the others being a factor anytime recently.
