If you compare this year to previous years, this year is an exception where we had bye stealers and spot stealers. Clemson and Utah stole byes, while Utah and KSU stole seeds. They lose and they are out, and Washington or FSU likely would have been in.

Also, shows how relevant the conference championships games will be:

- UNC could have played themselves in.
- Clemson was playing for a bye
- Utah not only played themselves in, but got a bye
- USC blew a bye and a home field game
- LSU would have been in with a win, they are out.
- UGA was playing for a bye.
- TCU lost a bye.
- KSU played their way in, even if they missed out on home field.
- Purdue was playing to get in and get a bye.
- UM was playing for a bye
- Tulane and UCF were playing for the 1 G5 spot.

And people want to get rid of these games.

Again, this was an aberrant year compared to the past, and divisionless conferences will smooth out some of this. UTjr and tOSU and Washington would have been playing for CCs. LSU, Utah and Purdue would not have been in the games.

In defense of the "the regular season won't matter as much" people, UGA/UTjr and UM/tOSU would have been rematches, and we had 1 with KSU/TCU. USC/Washington and Clemson/UNC would not have been.

I am in favor of this 12-team playoff. One thing that has bothered me about college football is that every program in the league has not had a shot at the title. I believe if you are in a league, you should be able to have that opportunity. I don't see a program like Coastal Carolina ever making the 4-team playoff even if they had gone 13-0 and dominated everyone. The 12-team playoff will allow for any FBS team to have an opportunity at winning the NC.

weird flex
Oregon still has more appearances in the CFP than all but 13 programs.
and only 7 have more.
Only 5 teams have more wins than Oregon in the CFP.

So even tho Colorado has never won the Pac they did have a Big XII in this time frame and played for the Pac once. the other team that hasnt won the Pac, Arizona has also won the south and played for the conference.

I left Penn State off the B1G list. They have three.

I really thought there was less variety in the last 25 years. These have totally whiffed in the past 25 years.

ACC - Syracuse*, Louisville*, NC State, Boston College, North Carolina, Duke, Miami*, Virginia

B1G - Maryland* (Had an ACC one), Rutgers*, Purdue, Minnesota, Nebraska* (Had a Big 12 one)

Big 12 - Texas Tech, Kansas, West Viriginia*, Iowa State

PAC 12 - Arizona

SEC - South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri*, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M* (Had on in Big 12), Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas

To be fair, in 2020, ISU finished first in the Regular Season by a game and a half and still had the best record in the Big Xii after the CCG. They would have made the 12 team playoff as an at-large in 2020 too.

They probably would have. Hell, TCU didn’t even win the conference this year and ended up a three seed in a four team playoff. They’d of had a lower seed in a 12 team one.

I was just curious as to how many teams did not have a conference championship in the last quarter century. Not as many as I thought.

By 2011 Big Xii rules, ISU would have a Conference Championship. 8-1 in Big Xii play and Oklahoma was 6-2 (they didn't play @ WVU). Even after OU won the re-match, ISU was still 8-2 compared to their 7-2. Argh!
