Mazi Smith making headlines for all the wrong reasons

What a stupid fucking response. It very much WAS against NCAA rules at the time, you know, what actually counts. Who cares what it would be today, then wasn't today. "Success with honor" my ass
Yes it was. It was also 35 years ago. And unlike Ohio State's football players receiving benefits, we actually imposed some pretty severe consequences over it that destroyed our basketball program for a good portion of a decade.

As for the hockey program, theres a laundry list of shady shit.

You can start here.

More SUCCESS WITH HONOR!

Successful coach was fired. Not sure what other measures you'd want out of that?

The University very literally modified it's entire sexual assault policy to kick him out. And he sued the University for it.
Four years after the fact and after a watchdog group brought it up and made the university look bad. The team did literally nothing to him.

@osubuckeye89 speaking of hockey, remember when your players were going around calling people the N word during games and OSU did nothing until the media backlash?

Accusations he's never been found guilty of. That was always the problem with that particular case. The criminal justice system essentially cleared him. The University changed policy so that simply being accused was enough to remove someone.

Michigan did what any school would do in that situation, self imposed some stuff so that the NCAA didn't go scorched earth on them. They were getting punished either way so lets not pretend like Michigan is some honorable institution who only punished themselves because "it was the right thing to do" you can fuck right off if you believe that.

So one self imposed exile from post season play destroyed Michigan Basketball for a decade?

Recruiting kids to come play basketball with no chance of a post season absolutely kills your program. It's called the "death penalty" for a reason.

And they only did it because they knew the NCAA would hammer them harder if they didnt do it. Don't believe for a second that they did it because "it was the right thing" they did it to save face with the NCAA and avoid extra punishment from them, like any school did at that time after getting caught doing stuff that was not allowed.

Michigan self imposed a lengthy post-season ban. Name another school who's done that.

They cleared him because Taylor Lewan threatened to sexually assault her in front of other players and it bothered one of his teammates so much that he called the police and the police went up to him and said it’s cool that he committed a felony by threatening a witness but please don’t do it again. Surprise, surprise, after finding this out, the victim refused to cooperate.

And lets not even talk about Michigan state. the school has felons beating people in tunnels with weapons.

For ONE season. Memphis bounced back quickly after Coach Cal bombed and they aren’t a major program.

Pretty sure those players were suspended and/or kicked off the team.

Sounds like more SPARTY conspiracy to me, supported by absolutely nothing. Now the entire court system, the entire prosecuting office and all officers are there to support UM.

I'm sure that same "THAT WOULDA BEEN LEGAL TODAY!" sentiment applies to Maurice Clarett and the tattoo gate players as well? Of course it doesn't though. Because Michigan fans are self absorbed hypocrites who carry on a comical charade of moral superiority.

A 1 year self imposed post season ban is lengthy? good grief your scrambling for air here.

Self-imposed[edit]

By the fall of 2002, it had become clear that Michigan's basketball program was guilty of major violations.[4] In response, Michigan decided to impose its own sanctions on the program.[41] Initially, Michigan announced it would forfeit every game in which the four players appeared.[41] On November 7, 2002; Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman and athletic director Bill Martin announced that the school was imposing sanctions of its own on the basketball program. Among them:

  • No postseason play in 2002–03, even though the players who took Martin's money were no longer at the school.

Glad that you pointed to the fact the OSU has had two cases in the three decades since the fab five where your players have been getting paid to play.
