I think I’m losing interest in college football at a rapid rate

Maybe it's because we can travel large distances today much easier than we did in the 1950's and the 1960's so the regional thing is lost forever and that was an added element. Watching the Rose Bowl was a big deal. Now....pfffft. I'll play xbox which is so much more entertaining than a parade. Conferences can have teams from anywhere now, so what is the point of conferences and bowl games.

You wanted to know if others felt the same as you. I do. cfb is dead imo. Why? I have my opinion which is largely money. But what made it fun was the regional relation to conferences and the bantering between the different regions of us fans in different parts of our country about who is the best of the best. And the only way for a UK to keep up in football was to hope some tobacco chewing fool from farmland stays local. He isn't doing that if the Ducks offer him an under armour deal.
The mega conferences suck. To me, 12 teams is the perfect number, but players have been leaving their region to play for other teams for decades. Charley Trippi was from Pennsylvania. He played for UGA in the 40’s. Joe Namath damn sure ain’t from Alabama, but that’s where he played

To me it's the dominance of 4 or 5 schools.

Not saying the 12 team is a magic bullet but at least it will keep more fan bases involved in the playoffs and generate more interest in games that don't involve the top 5

lol. You are becoming a boomer with your old ass
Here I thought it was just spoiled Championship fan snobbery- but what do I know?
:noidea:
Of course if he’s missing games due to frequent naps and early bed time you may be on the right track.

Sure. They even had trains and buses in 1950 so yes....the wealthier kids could travel. That doesn't change my factual statement that more kids would stay local. Your exceptions noted.

To be fair, I would have watched more games, but it seemed like this year, every game I wanted to watch was on at the same time as the UGA game. Like Bama-TN, Michigan-OSU etc

But there is an element of not being hungry anymore, but the more I think about e future of the SEC and B1G and what they’re doing to the other conferences, the less I like it. UGA is one of the fortunate few right now, but I didn’t like a 14 team SEC and I damn sure don’t like a 16 team SEC, and where will it stop?

We’re having to cancel future non conference home and homes because of conference realignment. It sucks and kills the excitement for me.

UGA is in the playoffs and if they beat, OSU, I’m going to the NCG, but I’m about ready for Braves opening day

If all kids stayed local, it would still be the same teams having a realistic shot at winning any given year, just maybe add in UCLA

Yeah....that's what I said.

Seriously, I agree with you that cfb has lost it's edge. With money, attitudes and travel the way it is today, it's never going to be the same as back in the day.

For me, it is over exposure, like boxing and wrestling in the 50s, NASCAR in the 90s and aught. Not every game is important to watch.

Also, I blame the playoffs, whether 2,4, or 12 teams. There seemed to be more interest for me when it was just the polls.

The modern game has a lot of improvements like the playoffs and more freedom for the players, but the game as a whole just isn’t as exciting.

It’s gonna eventually be the SEC, the B1G and everyone left out will be poverty programs with no real chance to compete.

And then there was the spending so long just wanting to beat Bama and win a natty, and then it finally happened, and it’s just like nothing will ever top that high. Objectively if UGA wins it all this year, it’ll be more impressive considering what they lost in the draft and to the portal, but it wouldn’t mean near as much as last year

The playoffs are good. 12 is too many, and the committee sucks. Personally, I’d keep it at 4 and let the BCS determine which 4.

Too many instances of B1G teams hiding in the Rose Bowl back then.

I don't care. The Rose Bowl was the goal and it was more interesting to me. So, there.
Different strokes I guess, but IMO the BCS was an upgrade over the polls and and the playoffs were an upgrade over the BCS. The 12 team version is TBD, but I have my doubts

There was a time when Saturdays in the Fall were nothing but football from noon until Pac after dark ended.

This year, not counting mid week MACtion and Funbelt games, you could probably count the number of games I watched that UGA wasn’t playing in on one hand.

And even then, UGA is playoff bound, and me, my gf,, a couple buddies and their wives are all flying into Vegas with the intent of going to LA for the NCG, and I’m excited for Vegas, but I’m having a hard time getting excited for the game. Might just because it’s in LA and I have no interest at all in LA.

I’ll always follow UGA, but the sport as a whole just doesn’t really do it for any more. This is the first year ever that I’ve watched more NFL than college football.

I blame the mega conferences
angry i hate you GIF

I will say the thing that drives me bats to no end is the commentators talking about the national title almost non-stop during the Central Michigan vs. Akron (or whatever team) game. Talk about this game, the one you are commentating.

Outside of that, I am a college football fan. Period. End of discussion in relation to what other sports I follow equally. I know that the CFP, NIL, and the transfer portal amongst a ton of other things have changed this sport. However, I just watch it. I want to see the close games, the dramatic finishes, the comebacks, and see if teams can actually keep a lead by playing to win and not playing not to lose. When I am watching a game, any game, for me, it seems like all the other stuff is pushed away (NIL, transfer portal, etc.). I am watching 11 guys playing 11 other guys in a physical, brutal chess match.

I used to love bowl season, now the only reason I pay attention is because I put money on every game

It was mentioned before, but mega conferences also get some blame. It led to unbalanced schedules.

Georgia should play Alabama every year. Nebraska should play Oklahoma every year. Oregon should play USC every year.

From 1960 - 1990 Georgia and Alabama played a total of 13 times in 30 years.
It's been going on for a long time.

Florida, Auburn and GT are the only rivals UGA has played pretty much every year. SCar was played more often even before they were in the SEC more than most SEC teams. Clemson too.

UGA and Tennessee went from the mid 30’s through the mid 60’s without playing at all despite both being in the SEC the entire time.

It’s why if the SEC goes to 3 permanent rivals when OU and Texas come, SCar will be one of UGA’s and not Tennessee or Alabama
