I think I’m losing interest in college football at a rapid rate

CFB was so popular the money had to escalate. And it did. Very quickly. And along with it came what we have.

Television found a way to make more money from it. In doing so they had to pay schools/conference more as well and the bidding kept going up. Likewise coaching salaries went up as well as facility improvement, yada, yada, yada. And schools wanted more so changing conferences was a boost. It was just a matter of time before players said "Hey, what about us? If there is enough money to pay coaches that much money, why don't we get a piece of the pie."

Sooooooooooooooooo, money drove this and that is something we just have to live with. Nobody wants less of it.

I do think television is going to have to give a little regarding time slots if the on site game day experience is going to be preserved.

Because people liked the SWC, I did too.. but I wouldn't want to be a part of it still.. Stadiums weren't full.. people weren't tuning into Raycom to watch Rice vs UH. The old Big12 was good, at least the South division, but I think there are better games to be had in the SEC move for UT and ou.

For every Texas, Oklahoma, USC, etc there have also been Rutgers, Marylands, and Mizzous. Not all that have moved into those conferences are must see "bigger" schools. Some are about the same level of attractiveness as Rice and UH IMO.

It happened to me the day they approved stipends and allowed them sponsors. People used to get put in jail for paying college kids or parents to attend specific schools. Now that's the game. And that where the game is won. So natty's now mean, who can pay the most.

If I'm going to watch paid players...with some making more than most of us who have worked in our professions for years, I expect quality football.

This year, not counting mid week MACtion and Funbelt games, you could probably count the number of games I watched that UGA wasn’t playing in on one hand.

And even then, UGA is playoff bound, and me, my gf,, a couple buddies and their wives are all flying into Vegas with the intent of going to LA for the NCG, and I’m excited for Vegas, but I’m having a hard time getting excited for the game. Might just because it’s in LA and I have no interest at all in LA.

I’ll always follow UGA, but the sport as a whole just doesn’t really do it for any more. This is the first year ever that I’ve watched more NFL than college football.

I've been there for a couple years now.
 
I just don't watch bowl games anymore. I used to do the bowl pick'em and was so excited for all bowl games. Hasn't been the same the last couple years. I will likely only watch the top bowl games.

I was that same way for decades, just hasn't peaked my interest the last couple years like the past. That could be a me issue and less of a college football issue though.

2023: Central Michigan, Tennessee State, Ohio State, USC, Navy, Stanford, 6 ACC schools(Clemson, Wake Forest, Duke, NC State, Louisville and Pitt)

That's like 6 games next year where I'm already disinterested in(CMU, TSU, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, and Louisville)

I'm hoping with the 12 team model, we get more important Non conference games, where losing a game doesn't make you need to win the rest. Big games are what makes the sport so great, we've lost out on a bunch of rivalry games over the last decade, so now hopefully they can be replaced with better marquee Non conference games.

The deaths of both the consistent, quality OoC scheduling and yearly classic rivalries were both
pretty big.

The former more than the later for me.

It's been longer than Day has been sexually assaulted by Harballs but really bowl season used to be one of the best times of the year. The interest is falling. I think the expansion of the CFP will create more interest. I know it's football and grueling sport but maybe some kind of tourney for teams not in the CFP could make it interesting.
 
I'll never not watch Clemson, but I've definitely had less and less interest in the rest of sport the last few years. I think its a combination of a few things for me.

1. Settling down and not spending every Sat and Sun for 4 months watching football all day.

2. Mega conferences. Has ruined a lot of rivalries or the meaning of conference championships to me.

3. Transfers. I don't care about NIL. I'll never get mad about people rightfully earning money that someone is willing to pay them. It may be dumb at times, but good for them. And I'm not against players being able to transfer where ever they are wanted and for whatever reason they want. But selfishly, transfers has ruined the game a bit for me. It use to be fun and unique when a player chose your school, knowing you had him for 4-5 years. Now that it has become free agency every year for every player, its just become NFL lite. And since the NFL puts out a better on field product, I'll probably just spend more of time watching the NFL and less CFB. And since I'm spending less of my weekends only watching football, probably means not nearly as much cfb for me in the upcoming years.
