Honestly surprised people don't die on the field in the NFL more often

so not equivalent.

less than.

I get what you are saying though. There are similarities to a car crash in what your body is seeing when it gets tackled.

I just saw the Scott Van Pelt video crying for the cameras. Come on, bro.

yea...it says "similar"

it does not say "equivalent" once in that article.

I sometimes forget what a nitpicking douche you are.
I'm an engineer. We like to be precise.

sorry you were wrong.

I wasn't exactly disagreeing with you at first, just trying to get you to use the correct words.

you'd think a lawyer such as yourself would get that.

Shut up douche.

you should really learn to take the L like a man.
Congrats on your internet win on the important distinction to this discussion between the words “equivalent” and “similar.” Pretty much every other person here understood the discussion.

You can tell your imaginary girlfriend about the ownage here.

What a douche…

such a sore loser you are...

anyways...back to the topic at hand.

what happened last night is obviously very very rare and I think the NFL and ESPN did all the right things in response to it.

I don't think there is really anything the NFL can do to avoid anything like that if it was just a freak heart thing...but also I don't think I saw anything in the tackle that would make me think there was anything out of the ordinary there...

just gotta hope he's ok at this point.

I wasn't watching last night, but I was watching when Dennis Byrd and Darryl Stingley were paralyzed on the field. It leaves.a vacuum in your soul.

you are probably not gonna get any real updates until they wake him up out of the medically induced coma. To see how his motor functions are.
His vitals are stable.

Not that Hamlin is dead, and I wish him the best, but I often have thought that it should happen more often. It is a gladiator level sport, and the physical punishment is nothing short of brutal on many plays.

I am not sure how there isnt more people carted off on stretchers, and even dying of injuries sustained on the field. In construction, on the Strip out here, If a guy died on the job, they would just hurry and load him in an ambulance, and ship him off to pretend he died at the hospital, instead of on the job. Thats what I thought was happening last night.

You would also think that the NFL would have shit in place for when something like this happens. Instead of the perpetual limbo that was the broadcast last night. ESPN didnt have anything to go to. No protocol in place for the game being postponed by the NFL. Seems like this should have been talked about at some point by both the league and broadcast partners.

The other thing, Hamlin got hurt doing what he loved, I assume. Wouldnt that be a rallying point for the team to go out and beat the fuck out the opposition? Would he have told them to cancel the game, or got win it for him, if he could have spoken of course. Would you want the game to stop for your incident?

I didn't understand the not resuming the game decision. Didn't make sense to me. The "Let's win it for the Gipper!" or whatever that shit was...what happened to it? Gipper would be on his own today I suppose.

I saw Burrow warming up and thought here we go, back to the game.....but nope. That's not what happened.

His uncle posted that he’s being intubated and sedated on his stomach to take the pressure off his lungs. He said he had sustained injuries to his lungs as well. (A lot of early Covid patients who were intubated were also placed on their stomachs as it’s easier to breathe that way.

His uncle stated that he had to be resuscitated twice, once on the field and once at the hospital. He was on 100% oxygen but it’s down to 50% now so maybe there’s some hope.

Interestingly, the one death on the football field that sticks out the most to me wasn't because of the physical contact.

Korey Stringer of the Vikings died of a heat stroke during practice back in 2001.

I'm surprised that doesn't happen more often, considering the start of two-a-days is in August.
