True, but "who is better" is subjective. Is Caleb Williams really the best QB in CFB this year? Is he the best player in CFB? Or just the hot name at a marquee position? If an A&M QB wins the natty but not the heisman would someone say Lamar was the better QB?

Lamar was special in college. Dude had video game stats and literally was unstoppable in the ACC and I would put his last season up there with Vince Young and Cam Newton. We aren't talking about Mayfield, Murry, Manziel, and Young as we are talking about elite performances that stand alone.
That is the measuring stick and we will know if we see it. Your guy could put up Peyton Manning performances and not equal what Lamar Jackson did in college. So we will know if your guy compares and he doesn't have to win a natty but if he meets the criteria he will run away with the Heisman.

On paper A&M should be a lot stronger but I thought they would have been last year and was extremely surprised.
For your guy to be better than Jackson and Mallet he will need to put the team on his shoulders and win several games. That is no easy task but that is something Jackson, Newton and Young did on a consistent basis.
To put it in perspective Mac Jones and Joe Burrow never had to put the team just on their shoulders in order to win as they had playmakers all around them and just had to be very successful game managers. To be Elite you have to be the guy that wills the team to win and we will know that when we see it. Hate Brady and Rodgers all you want but those guys pretty regularly put the team on their shoulders and make a winning drive happen.
So during the season if your QB is making the guys around him better and making the plays that win you games then you start to have an argument but it's a high bar that you've set.

Well, my comment before it was bastardized wasn't just about the QB. "Did Petrino ever have the talent A&M has right now?" isn't specific to the QB, it's the entire offense.

i bet the louisville OL was probably much better than what the ags have currently.. y'all have talented TEs, WRs and RB... I still think Weigman is special, I'm a little worried when he runs now knowing he has some concussion issues.
Hopefully Petrino makes the offense easier for him to avoid that

People say Caleb..but I personally believe that Bryce Young was the better QB this season despite his 2 losses at Bama. He and Gibbs were the only threats and still were able to hold their own in shootouts

You were asked specifically if your QB was going to do better than Lamar or Mallett and you said "I do". Now I don't have a problem if you want to backtrack that and state "I misspoke and don't think the QB will be that Elite" then we will absolutely allow you to do that but don't be putting the blame on other posters with a "before it was bastardized" label. You are a big boy and not new to these boards so you have to own that comment 100%.
Again I have no issue with you retracting the comment but let's call it a retraction and not point fingers. Personally, I think you were feeling the juices a little and got ahead of yourself and everyone has been there.

The true test is if you put Young on USC's team and Williams on Bama how do they perform? I think USC is not as strong with Young and Bama doesn't miss a beat with Williams.
I think Caleb out played him.

No, he asked a direct question and you gave a direct answer. At this point, you can retract the statement or live with it but if you live with it you are basically saying that aTm has an elite QB that will be better than Lamar Jackson.
I would advise retracting it.

I think Bryce would have torn it up with BETTER weapons to throw at.. who cares about the overall record if you are scoring at a high clip.. You telling me he wouldn't have done just as good with Addison, Mario Williams to throw too?
I don't see Caleb Williams improving wins at Bama had he played there.. He would still put up numbers, but who on Bama was a weapon better than what he had at SC this past season? (outside Gibbs?) Earle? lol

Williams makes things happen with his feet. Young would have struggled with USC's line protecting him instead of Alabama's.
All of Alabama's losses were tight scores and I think Williams' legs help win one of those games.
