1.) Has to be the 2008 Patriots who were forbidden from making the playoffs when Brady went down. Matt Cassel was absolutely electric that season and will never be forgiven by Patriots fans for exposing Tom Brady for what he is. That team was so good they went 16-0 with Tom Brady being extremely pedestrian. With Cassel they would have won the Super Bowl.

2.) 2010 Chargers: #1offense in the NFL and #1 Defense in the NFL and zip, zilch, nada to show for it because Spanos ran Marty out of town. Marty could have won multiple NFLs with that team.

Then hired Norv Turner, lol

Every other year or so, the Cowboys take this mantle.

Whereas CLE never has the talent to do so. :beer2:

I guess you could make the argument last season that they were one of the most talented to miss out. Definitely had high expectations heading in to the year.

This season was weird with the whole Watson situation. I still hate that trade, and not just because that whole Watson story is gross. If he doesn't work out, the whole franchise is set back another 4-5 years.

I think Marty Schottenheimer might be the most underrated Coach of all time.

the best record to miss the playoffs was the 67' Baltimore Colts.
They were 11-1-2 finished 2nd to the Rams who were also 11-1-2. (two best records in the NFL)
They had a +196 point differential

In the playoffs
GB (9-4-1) beat the Rams(11-1-2), Dallas(9-5) beat Cleveland (9-5)

GB beat Dallas

GB beat the AFL Raiders in the Superbowl.

I dont know if this is true, but I got to believe this might be a main reason Wild Cards ended up being invented.

Damn in the 70's a shit ton of teams missed the playoffs at 10-4
85' Broncos 11-5

The 91 Niners comes to mind. Young at QB. Rice and Taylor at WR and each had 1,000+yds. Jones at TE. Charles Haley on defense.

They went 10-6 and missed the playoffs. Rattled off 6 straight wins to end the season, but the early losses sunk them in the playoff race. At 10-6, they were THIRD in the division.

So do I.

My list of most underrated coaches of all time:
1.) Marty Schottenheimer
2.) Jeff Fisher
3.) Rich Kotite
so when I read this. I take it as you dont agree. LOL

The 2006 Jags don’t get nearly enough credit for just how badly they faceplanted imo.

9th ranked scoring off, 4th ranked scoring def. Beat five different playoff teams, including three blowouts.

Went winless in their last 3 games to finish 8-8.

2002, 2004-05 Chiefs

Trent Green, Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson (those two were amazing in their primes), Eddie Kinnison/Tony Gonzalez on offense. Also had Jared Allen

Similar to the Browns in 2007. Anderson was a Pro Bowler at QB, Jamal Lewis had 1300+ rushing yards, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow each went over 1100 yards receiving, missed the playoffs at 10-6. 4 of their losses were by 6 points or less. Just a gut punch of a season.

Probably not at the top of the list but the '86 Seahawks deserve a mention here. Beat both SB teams and were on fire the last several weeks of the season.

They deserved to get in waaaaay more than this year's team or the 2020 team that might have been the worst 12-4 team in NFL history.

Trying to figure out if this list is for overrated or underrated looking at #2.
