The annual postseason top 10 coaches in the country list

Yeah, that's what I was saying too. First P5 job, probably not, or it would at least take a couple years. You put Saban/Kirby there next year, they are pulling in top 15 classes IMO. They are both that good.
With multiple nattys on their resumes, they’d probably be able to land a top 10 class at any school. Hey….maybe even to El Paso!
I know, I know. I live in a low rent dream world.

I will go a step further. Do you think Kirby Smart at Auburn would out recruit Alabama and Georgia (with whatever coach they would replace him with)? I would give you 10-1 odds for any amount of money, that Auburn would finish behind both Georgia and Alabama in recruiting every year.
Kirby Smart would compete for championships at all the top schools:

UF, UGA, UA, UA, UTjr, LSU, ATM, OU, UT - possibly at Ole Miss and Arkansas.
tOSU, UM, PSU, USC, UCLA - possibly but not likely UN
Ore
Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC
ND

He's that good of a recruiter and coach. He would convince them to spend the money that would need to be spent.

UGA's recruiting level went through the roof once CKS got to UGA. Richt was good ... top 10s, but he wasn't in the same universe as to what Smart does. His level of detail is second to none, not even Saban IMO.

This. I don't think people realize how big home state talent is in today's game. These kids are in contact with each other all time with social media. They communicate daily, weekly, etc. 5 star CB Will Johnson, who is from Michigan, almost got fellow 5 star CB Domani Jackson to leave the sun in California to go come to Michigan, just so they could play together.

The home grown talent is invaluable in recruiting. They all go to these national camps, the national 7 on 7's, the corporate events that Nike, etc put on. So they are interacting with each other at a level they never did before the internet, social media and all these big high school football events.

If a coach goes to an Iowa State or Cal (simply using your examples) -- those schools don't have the budget to recruit the big time programs have, they don't have in state talent to help sway kids to come play with them, so will they be able to sign a couple more 4 star kids? Absolutely. Are they going to sway 5 star and a bunch of top 100 recruits to come to Iowa State or Cal? Absolutely not.
Georgia's no. 2 class this year had only 5 players from the state of Georgia.

I am not denying that being in Georgia is advantageous ... next year we will be loaded with Georgia players. But this year we had 21 players from states that were not Georgia. Many of our best players this year were not from Georgia - Bowers, Washington, McConkey, Mitchel, Ringo, and I can go on and on.

McConkey is from Chatsworth, near the TN line, but still in GA

Now how many of your recruits in 2023 aren't from Georgia or a state Georgia borders? I don't know all the states that border Georgia, but I know Florida and Tennessee are two of them, from my many times driving to spring break in college.

Right now -- IMO, no team in college football has as big of an advantage recruiting as Georgia. They had the chance to have it in the past, but didn't have the right coaching staff in place.

As the only major P5 football program in the state that is putting out the most top 100 recruits in the country -- You can't ask for much more in recruiting. Then to be in proximity or border a state like Florida -- Georgia is the team I said could go on a Bama like run and it is entirely possible they will.

See, why couldn’t you have just said that when I asked what Richt’s excuse was to begin with? You know, those later years when Saban was loading up his roster with Georgia kids?

In Richt's defense -- When he took over at Georgia -- the sheer volume of top 100 recruits was nothing like it is now. You'd have a couple a year, but you wouldn't have 12-15, like you do now.

That a credit to ridiculous level of HS football played in Georgia right now.

You keep saying when he first took over, I’m asking about his tenure at UGA that overlapped with Saban at Bama

I just pulled up the class from this year. 14 of your top 15 are from Georgia or a state that borders Georgia. A kid from Massachusetts is the only one not in that category.

So the variety looks good, but it is mostly lower ranked kids he pulled from states further away.

No lies here.

Looks like you guys are cherry picking the best guys from each state. Where's Alaska?
They aren't though. 14 of their top 15 recruits are from Georgia or Florida. The one who isn't, is from Massachusetts. All the single guys from different states are the bottom guys in their class.

Virginia kid is ranked 642
Texas kid is ranked 246
Louisiana kid is a kicker -- they don't have a ranking
Pennsylvania kid is ranked 243
Nevada kid is ranked 272
California kid is ranked 185

They are ranked #1 because they fleeced the state of Georgia and Florida

Damn you did a lot of research.

Whole lot of 4 stars in there, and you can bet your ass if Kirby is taking the 642nd ranked player, that kid is a baller that was under ranked since Kirby has an eye for talent

But you’ve dodged the question enough, either answer or shut the fuck up.

What was Mark Richt’s excuse for not recruiting anywhere near Kirby’s level? Not the early 00’s, the second half of his tenure that overlapped with Saban being at Bama. Don’t be a coward like you’ve been this entire thread, be a man. Don’t twist the question, answer it.

I can't say I've paid attention enough to what Richt's recruiting classes were like -- But I'd guess it would be a mixture of a couple things.

1. The sheer volume of blue chip recruits in the state of Georgia

2. A huge increase in the number of top 100 recruits in the state of Georgia

3. The state of the football programs in the state of Florida making it much easier to pull recruits, as Florida, Florida State and Miami have all been disasters

What do I win?

The sheer volume of blue chip recruits didn’t really change between the end of Richt’s tenure and the start of Smart’s, again what was the reason Richt wasn’t at the same level at the end as Kirby was in the beginning?

Florida and Miami were down for the second half of Richt’s tenure.

You failed. You’re a failure. You should be embarrassed. If you were Japanese, you’d be killing yourself right about now
