The annual postseason top 10 coaches in the country list

Think they were paid enough to risk losing out on the guaranteed money they’d make in the draft had they declared after 2016? They were definitely paid, but coming back was a major gamble for their long term finances. The gamble paid off since both had arguably the best season of their college career their senior season and improved their draft stock, but had Chubb tore up his knee again, he might not have been drafted at all. There was money involved for sure, but there was more to it than that
Yes -- they have insurance policies they can take out, which i'm sure the school took out for them and said the players paid for them.

Pretty much. Saban and Day too, but mostly Smart.

If anyone can land elite recruiting classes based solely on location, the Florida schools and UCLA would be right up there with Bama, UGA and OSU, and Auburn too for that matter.
UGA and OSU are the only P5 programs in their respective states. Though you can try to say Cincy and Georgia Tech are, but they aren't pulling any top guys from their home states.

Auburn is the clear 2nd choice in state to Alabama, UCLA is the clear 2nd choice in state to USC.

No team, in all of college football, has a bigger advantage recruiting than Georgia right now. When Richt was coach (up until the finaly year or two) -- California and Florida were pumping out more top 100 recruits than the state of Georgia. Now Georgia puts out more top 100 recruits than either both California and Florida -- they do this as the only major P5 program.

What was Richt’s excuse in that final year or two?

You do know that 2016 was Kirby’s first year, and it was an 8-5 year with a terrible offense and he still landed the best recruiting class in program history to that point for the 2017 class. So that was before Chubb and Michel’s huge 2017

His last two years he had the 6th ranked recruiting class in the nation. What am I missing? Smart used those same recruits to finish #2 in the nation.

6th in the nation. Is that the same as in the top 3 every damn year?

Kirby’s first class that he had to piece together after he took the job was 6th and is the worst ranked class he’s ever had.

In year two before he had any sniff off success, Kirby landed a recruiting class better than any Richt had in his 14 years on the job

2015 is about the time that Georgia passed Cali and Florida in the amount of top 100 recruits each year. Prior to that -- Georgia put out talent, but nothing like they have the last 7/8 years. 2015 -- Georgia had 17 kids in the top 150 nationally. It has only grown since then.

My buddies kid plays for Valdosta now. I went to a game two years ago, when I went to visit him. It is INSANITY the difference in play from Georgia HS football to Michigan HS football. Valdosta felt like I was watching a college team play. So on top of pumping out a boatload of top recruits -- even the lower ranked 4 star and higher ranked 3 stars are most likely more ready for college football than say a 4 star from Michigan.

Who you got?

Here’s mine:

1. Nick Saban
2. Dabo Swinney
3. Kirby Smart
4. Jim Harbaugh
5. Kyle Whittingham
6. Ryan Day
7. Brian Kelly
8. Lincoln Riley
9. Chris Klieman
10. James Franklin

I know Jimbo Fisher and Mack Brown have natties on their resume, but they’re too far removed

Think I might have Kirby above Dabo.

So, in theory Richt’s 2015 class should have been on par with Kirby’s 2017 class then, especially since 2014 was a far better season for UGA than 2016.

And both the Valdosta high schools have always been powerhouses. They both have a ton of state titles and I think both even have a hand full of National high school titles.

They were pipelines for FSU for a long time.

Hell, even Valdosta State(I went there for a semester) is probably the best D2 program of all time, and has produced more NFL talent than a D2 program probably should

Dabo has a bunch more conference titles and playoff appearances and one more NCG appearance.

Going forward, I’d probably take Kirby, but Dabo still has the better resume IMO

True.

I give Kirby a bump for the "Saban Effect". Gotta figure he'd have a couple more conference titles without it.

But Dabo is definitely falling off the pace.

It essentially was on par -- it just so happens the Georgia in state recruits in 2017 were ranked a little higher than the 2015 recruits and Georgia got a last second commitment from Isaiah Wilson. Only reason I know it was last second, is because it was down to Michigan or Georgia. That bumped you guys as he was the top player in that class for Georgia.

So Kirby pulling in a player from New York that was the topped rated player in the class following an 8-5 season to cap off the best recruiting class in program history at the time is seen as a knock to you?

You’re hopeless. Literally everything you’ve said only confirms Kirby is an elite recruiter

I live about 15 miles east of Belleville and 10 miles west of Cass Tech/Detroit King. Those are the top programs in Michigan putting out D1 talent. I've watched all 3 play many times.

After watching Valdosta play -- it looked like a completely different game I was watching. It made the Michigan high school games look like Pop Warner.

I didn't say it was a knock. It is quite obvious, he was looking to go to a school that likes to run the football, as his final two schools (Michigan and Georgia) were both 8-5, but both wanted to establish the run and both put OL into the NFL.

You’d think Michigan would have the edge for a recruit from a yankee state, especially since UGA was far from established at the time.

Nah -- New York is East Coast. Michigan is Midwest. The craziest part about the New York is how huge the state is and how little big time talent it puts out.

New York is north east. Georgia is Deep South.

But yeah, states like New York and Illinois really underproduce talent relative to their populations.
