PAC News

Nope. It would have already happened.

Washington brings more to the table than Oregon. A Natty for starters. More conference titles, more consensus all-Americans. More history.

Oregon brings nothing more to the Big 12 than they already have.
Everything you just pointed out about UW is all last century. But Don’t sell UW short - they also bring an 0-12 season and losing 14 of 16 games to their rivals. Like I said, Oregon is more valuable athletic program than all schools left. They have better facilities, highest recruiting results, and yes they are a National Brand.

They have the highest viewership in the PAC several years running. Might be the tallest midget, but the program is healthier and more valuable than most of the fans teams that are responding.

Yes, and it does.
The flaw in that is they didnt play a Big XII schedule. would they still have finished as they did if they had? would Oklahoma still have made the Playoffs EVERY year they did had they already been in the SEC?
When Cinci made it and UCF was undefeated the arguments were they didnt belong because of their schedule. so which is it?

Top 6 conference champs then 6 at large or basically next highest ranking?
2012 Kansas State
2013 Baylor UCF from outside the top 12 as the AAC Champion
2014 Baylor TCU kansas State
2015 TCU Houston from outside the top 12 as the AAC champ
2016 NA
2017 UCF from the AAC at 12
2018 UCF from the AAC
2019 Baylor
2020 Iowa State Cinci from the AAC
2021 Baylor Oklahoma State Cinci from the AAC
2022 kansas State TCU

Baylor 4 Kansas State 3 TCU 3

12 from the Big XII and 6 from the AAC 2 of which only got in on the top 6 champs part which if they were in the Big XII probably means they woulndt have.
so it was more than i thought with those others but still 1 short of your count. so not sure where i missed or you over counted.

Arizona State Ray Anderson tells Arizona Sports new @pac12 deal, "may not be the projections originally contemplated but will be a solid enough financial situation to keep this conference together."

So that’s a really positive sign and the first one I’ve seen that would indicate the PAC will survive. It’s not a massively strong statement but I don’t think it’s made publicly if there wasn’t a desire on influential booster to stay.

Is it still with Apple?

Is it still with Apple?

If they do a deal with Apple it will be disastrous for the PAC as their exposure will plummet. No one is going to subscribe to Apple just to watch PAC games with the exception of their own Alumni. I think this will impact other larger programs from scheduling home games with PAC teams as well.

As it stands right now a program like Oklahoma, Clemson, Alabama or Ohio State could hypothetically schedule a home-and-home with Oregon and it would be a massive game on national TV that generated massive ratings. Take that game and move it to Apple and those numbers fall off a cliff and the other fan base is going to struggle to find a way to even watch the stupid game.

If the deal they do is with Apple then it's just going to be a slow death.

What the plan is is to have a deal with Apple for majority of the conference games, basically what the PAC-12 network is now, and the big games be on ESPN or FOX. So for instance a #3 Oregon vs #8 Washington game would be on ESPN or FOX, while Washington State vs CAL is on Apple.

Personally, I think the death of network television isn't far off and streaming platforms are likely the future. However, the Pac-12 isn't strong enough to take that first step. If the SEC or B1G made that move, it would be a domino effect, and that will likely be something we see some time this decade, but Pac-12 will need to follow in that regard if they want to survive that long.

i think regardless of ranking and record if the Washington vs Washington state game isnt on Apple its a missed opportunity

I dont think the B1G Network is going anywhere. It seems to be well established and they put on plenty of content, it also seems far more accessible than even the SEC Network. I dont know, I have cable still and I pay for the sports package and I get the PAC12 Network and B1G Network, but I don't get SEC Network or ACC Network. So whatever deal the B1G has with it's network seems better and stronger than the SEC's.

So I guess maybe SEC would be the one to try and move to streaming for it's conference, but to me the B1G seems better.

I think the entity that is the B1G Network will still exist, but it will be part of a streaming sports app and not on a cable box.

True, I guess too if the conference feel confident enough they could survive on app subscriptions alone and not needing the aid of cable. But although I have the B1G Network now with the cable sports package, I wouldn't subscribe to just the B1G Network streaming, because I have no reason to. But since it's part of my sports package I do find myself watching B1G games during football or basketball season if there is an interesting game on it.

I don’t disagree that will eventually happen but I also don’t think sports is going to lead the way for that.

Everyday TV is struggling and that’s why you see Peacock, Paramount and ESPN all having their own plate forms with others like Discovery being bundled in HBO. The major networks are preparing for this and ABC has the infrastructure their content just exist on HULU or Disney which is all owned under the Disney umbrella.

Basically there is going to be a general movement to all content into streaming platforms and that point Sports will split but first it will be bundled as part of another service. An example I would expect the SEC and its network to be bundled in at ESPN for at least the next 10 years. The B1G will get bundled somewhere as well for the length of their contract.

When those contracts end then decisions will need to be made if you go alone or work with a streaming partner. I would be on a partnership because the infrastructure for both running a streaming service and producing the content isn’t for the faint of heart. So in the end the SEC and B1G will have their own “brand” but they will be bundled with another service and I doubt anyone will own and run their own deal,

I'm interested to see how it all shakes out with streaming services and sports, however if it ends up like Bally that will really suck. Those dudes are the fucking worst. I'm glad it's backfiring in their faces but I still can't watch any of the pro sports teams I want because of them.

now a report of ION??:headscratch:

and now being reported to not be involved

You have to use more words than that if we are going to know what you are talking about.
Brett McMurphy Action network, said ION television and Scripps sports was involved in the Pac 12 negotiations about an hour ago.
Stewart Mandel of the Athletic 10 min later said no
