ESPN in economic trouble?

What shows are you talking about Lizzie McGuire or Hannah Montana? You aren't seriously wanting to watch those are you?

No. Even Stevens, Boy Meets World, Duck Tales, Tailspin, Chip and Dales, etc. A lot of great cartoons for the kiddies came out in 90s.

EDIT: Plus all of the old movies from that era as well.

Their problem is the same as the cable news networks. They need to fill 24 hours of airtime but don’t have 24 hours worth of content, so they fill it with opinion shows and other bullshit. I only ever tune into ESPN for live sports. I used to watch Sportscenter, but you can get everything you need online now.

I didn't pull the trigger but I thought about getting Disney+ at one time to watch a lot of their classic shows from 90s and early 2000s. You have that.
i have the bundle with Hulu (no ads) and ESPN plus.. my chicas watch Hulu a lot and I'm watching plus for the boxing content

Yeah and the shows have gone down tremendously.. I remember when PTI first came on..it was terrific, then they did around the horn which was good under Max with characters like woody, TJ simers..and even that hack Jay Mariotti.. I even liked the Jim Rome is burning spot.. however it seemed to have gone down since then.. I can't watch anything other than college gameday/final as for shows.

I'm not a big Finebaum guy either.. so i don't tune into the SEC network to see what's going on with them

This. I can't even remember the last time I sat down and watched a whole episode of sportscenter.

I can just go online and watch the highlights I want at a click, instead of sitting through a full ass show just to see the couple I actually want to see.

Those shows in the early-mid 2000s were great. They've significantly gone downhill in quality in the last 10 years or so though and just get worse as time goes on. I try to tune into to the morning/early afternoon ones every so often if im home during the week. But they just arent good.

Yeah if it weren't for the Hulu bundle I wouldn't have Disney. I think I pay an extra $6 and get Disney plus ESPN+ which isn't a bad deal and I watched some Auburn stuff few were able to get. The XFL stuff on ESPN+ is kinda fun also.

Even College GameDay is getting a little iffy now. IMO, it is too long. They put in a lot of human interest stories to fill the time slot but, I hate to say it, they are pretty boring overall... I just want to hear about the games and the teams.

I feel like SEC Network, format-wise, is usually better now on Saturday mornings but it is just limited to the SEC which is the negative.

GameDay from 1990-2010 or so was dope though, loved it.

For sports, I have DirectTV Stream. It had a pretty good offer at the time. I did some research on it.

We had HULU Live as our TV package so I've kinda just inherited the other stuff and I'm cool with it. I used to have an issue when something got moved to the alternate SEC Network channel but now they just throw it up on ESPN+ so no issues. I can't think of anything I wanted to see and couldn't.

My only complaint could be during March Madness a couple of the big games seemed to overload the system but that could have been a local issue and it was a short period.

I'm still not going to watch any of that crap you listed on Disney as I would rather shoot myself.

GameDay hasn't been good for awhile, it's definitely a shell of itself from what it was in its better days. Extra negative points for them for continuing to trot Lee Corso out, should be considered elder abuse. Some human interest schlock is ok every now and then but yea, they've made it way too long and that human interest filler just makes me go "ugh" more often than not.

I think Hulu or FubiTV were very close to DirectTV Stream as a package.

Are you talking a year? If not what the heck are you watching? They basically have a decent show one at a time and sometimes that is debatable. She-Hulk and Ms. Marel were meh, the best things they've had were Andor and the Mandalorian.

If it weren't for Marvel and Star Wars there would be nothing to watch.
shows wise pretty much everything Marvel and StarWars. Mando, Boba Fett, Bad Batch, Andor, Obi wan. Loki, Falcon Winter soldier, Wandavision She-Hulk. all that. then with the way my schedule is i dont get a lot of free time so sometimes i dont get into theaters to see movies so Wakanda Forever and waiting for newest Ant man.

the Disney stuff isnt horrible if you take it for what it is. Mighty Ducks National Treasure and a few others.

they been wanting to do this for awhile.. these layoffs are just taking fat off a payroll. They will be fine.. they have a valuable exclusive deal with the SEC for football, MNF still is one of the highest rated NFL games, weekly.

Just wait til they offer ESPN to streamers/cord cutters that don't involve HuluTV or YoutubeTV.

You think Fox is itching to take away that inventory? Hell they sold it's RSN to Disney years ago.
Always wonder why companies and organizations get “payroll fat” in the first place. One of my contract jobs with the Texas Education Agency was to districts that had over employed personnel….mainly for local political reasons. Companies and other organizations shouldn’t have that issue.

Do the terms "woke" and "inclusive" ring a bell during the past few years? :rolleyes2:

But Marty and. McGee is way better than gameday.

Nah. It's fine. This is just typical big corporate gotta cut something for the shareholders type stuff that happens with all big corporate types nowadays. They've literally done this multiple times at ESPN specifically (as well as Disney at large) over the last decade. And every time one happens, people claim its the end of ESPN (they're really just airing their personal grievances not based in reality), then ESPN/Disney just keeps chugging along and then repeats the process like 4 years later.
