This is going to be fun to watch

So you’d be okay with a six-game regular season and a 128-team playoff?

We were told for years (by the powers that be) that "the regular season was already a playoff". Hence the bowl format for D1 football.

Of course when we got an actual playoff, it proved to be a lie because we got SEC rematches.

Dude if you are expanding the playoffs so a PAC team can finally make it and get blown out by an SEC team then that ain’t meaningful.

This year you guys were in the hunt for playoff spot and should have lost your bowl game to North Carolina.

That’s not meaningful. I have no doubt you will get super excited and come up with a thousand scenarios on how you can get that last playoff spot just to get your ass handed to you. That’s just how you guys roll.

Just admit you were wrong in the statement below.... No need to distract to try and save face.
It’s not really more football because all those teams would be in bowls.

It's more football because *On Campus Sites aren't bowl games.

They are going to have to because they are struggling to find bowl-eligible teams to fill the slots they have unless they are going to allow 5-7 teams to start going to bowls and if they do they aren't going to be bowl games you are going to watch anyway.
You would be surprised at how profitable bowl games are. It's one of the largest money makers for ESPN. They won't be going away ... each game, while not all that exciting, makes a lot of money for ESPN, and the teams love them for the practices they get and the experience for the players and families.

Nope. It’ll be just as difficult for my guys to make the playoffs as it has ever been. Our road to making the playoffs won’t be any easier.
To make the 4 team playoff a P5 team had to (for the most part) lose no more than 1 game. To make the 12 team playoff, 3 loss teams will regularly be in.

hopefully some schools will now try and schedule a good game OOC and not be worried about taking a loss that could comeback to bite them
Been saying that for years

It really only increases the games if those teams that lose the first round can then be slotted into a bowl game if they loose otherwise they are just replacing bowls.

I get your argument is bowls won’t decrease just more teams will make bowls but we don’t know that will actually happen. My bet is you will more than likely see lower tier bowls fold because the resources for those will be redistributed to the playoff.

If I’m wrong then fine but I’m not convinced they are going to put a bunch of 5-7 teams in bowls to fill those new slots.

I would be shocked if slating a bunch of 5-7 teams in the lowest tier of bowls will make money.

Who is going to sponsor that shit?

Bowl games (teams) are already slated before Dec 20 so that's not gonna happen. The first bowl game last season was Dec 19 iirc.

The ice has already been broken on allowing 5-7 teams into bowl games using the highest APR's.

Welcome to 2023.

The *On Campus Sites is going to increase the overall number of football games in a season.

That's all that was stated.

Nobody cares if you're some Nancy that doesn't care to see more CFB because "They're just (6-6) or (5-7) teams".

Said Nancy likely isn't a sports fan anyway and would rather watch The Bachelor or Dancing With The Stars than watch the CFB National Championship on Jan 20th.

Obviously there’s a balance Mr Hyperbole
Right. And some ppl think the balance is at a different pivot point than what you think it should be. QED

I guess. Honestly, we need to make championship weekend meaningful again. All 4 playoff spots were locked up last season before anyone played on Championship Saturday. That's incredibly lame. I'm glad they are expanding the playoff, even though I think they could tinker with some of the qualifications.

Prepare to be shocked. You know better ... doesn't matter who is going to sponser it ... that's the local bowl committees money. ESPN owns something like 37 of the 40 bowls. They make their money because millions of people watch each one. Look at those numbers ... pretty impressive that only 2 have less than a million viewers. 8 of the non-CFP bowls were 4 million+ games, all but 13 had more than 2 million viewers. Maybe you don't like bowl games - goodness knows you don't appear to even want to watch good CFP games - but CFB fans do.

LOL ... the Outback Bowl drew a smidge under 4 million on ESPN2.

Man, as long as they can get 1M people to watch San Jose State vs. Eastern Michigan, they're going to keep making more bowl games.

Cotton bowl can’t be a prime time game though so that should DQ them as a location.
