Schools With The Most 1st Overall Picks In The NFL Draft

It's honestly crazy they haven't won more titles in the last decade.
Seems like they just stumble 1 game a year and that knocks them out somehow. They've had some hilariously loaded teams that did absolutely nothing.

That's Coaching.
Ask me how I know.
lol, as do I.

I looked it up, from 2019-2022 they had 22 draft picks in the top 3 rounds. That's nuts. In that time Michigan had 28 total draft picks in any round.

yeah but they still beat a team in the CFP.. UM hasn't.. need more draft picks sir :)

This is it. Combined with the B1G being viewed as weaker (rightly so) and they couldn't afford the misstep.

Auburn has a substandard #1 picks to nattys ratio

i feel bad for guys like @Mistaken4193 that have to share a state with such mediocrity

You didn’t want just plunge your credibility you went for a dead and buried approach.

I’ve always said if you are going to do something then do it right.

Name 6.

I'm asking because I'm skeptical of your definition of the phrase "absolutely nothing".

2010-2013, 2015, 2016, 2021, 2022
2010 - Went 12-1 and won a BCS bowl.
2011 - Not loaded, went 6-7 with an interim coach and true freshman QB
2012 - Went unbeaten, if not for idiotic bowl ban would have likely won the NC
2013 - Also wouldn't say we were "loaded" though we blew the B1G CCG and lost an amazing Orange Bowl game against Clemson
2015 - 12-1 with a Fiesta Bowl win, though this year I would agree we blew it and should've been in the CFP but couldn't get offensive coaching right until it was too late
2016 - Finished with 3 top 10 wins and made the CFP even though we had a mass exodus of guys to the previous NFL draft
2021/2022 - Went a combined 22-4 with a Rose Bowl win and even though our offense was depleted, almost beat unbeaten reigning champ UGA and would've also likely won the NC

The only years I would agree with you on are 2013 and 2022, though making the CFP doesn't really qualify as "absolutely nothing".

Wait, you mean this 2012?

Almost lost at home to (3-9) Cal, 35-28. Cal led once in the 1H, OHST led at HT. Cal led early in the 4Q. Cal outgained OHST in total yds & 1st downs, but they were 0-3 on FGs.

Dogfight at home w/ (3-9) UAB, 29-15. More than halfway thru the 2Q, UAB was up 9-0. Then it was 21-15 until 5 mins left in the 4Q. UAB also outgained OHST in total yds & 1st downs.

Struggled @ (7-6) MSU, 17-16. OHST led almost the whole game, lost the turnover game 0-3, & had more penalties.

Tug-of-war at home w/ (10-4) Nebby for 2 & 1/2 qtrs. Nebby threw an opening pick six, then
led twice. But lost the turnover game 1-4.

Struggled @ (4-8) IU for about 2 & 1/2 qtrs. IU led once.

Barely survived at home vs (6-7) Purdue 29-22 OT. Purdue led for almost the entire game. OHST had to score a TD & 2pts with like 2 seconds left in the 4Q just to get to OT.

Did just enough to not lose @ (8-6) Wisky, 21-14 OT. OHST’s 1st TD was on a punt return. Wisky had more total yds & 1st downs, but also more turnovers, penalties, and a missed FG.

Nail-biter at home vs (8-5) UM, 26-21. UM led at HT.

Yes, that 2012. We would've likely faced unbeaten ND who:

Struggled to put away 7-6 USC

Struggled just as much with the same 8-5 michigan team

Barely beat 6-7 Purdue by 3

Went to triple OT vs 6-7 Pitt and won by 3

Barely escaped 8-5 BYU at home by 3

Neither team was that good, and OSU certainly wasn't "loaded" like M&B said, but I think they beat that ND team.

Yeah, nah.

Most of 2012 ND’s struggle wins were to traditional rivals (even if said rivals were just average).

They didn’t really struggle vs any doormats or bottom feeders while OHST did.

ND’s best wins were (12-2) Stanford & (10-3) OU. OHST’s best wins were (10-4) Nebby & I guess (8-6) Wisky?

I really don’t see OHST winning that one.

"Traditional rivals" is a ridiculous excuse for barely squeaking by bad teams like Purdue, Pitt, and USC. I'd also argue ND was very lucky to face Stanford when they were still inexplicably playing Nunes over Kevin Hogan at QB, who was clearly the far better option once he had the chance to prove it. Otherwise they're not making the NC game.

At the end of the day, if I had Urban Meyer planning for a month leading up to a NC game or Brian Kelly doing the same, Urban is the obvious choice.
