MSU’s Payton Thorne AND Keon Coleman enter the portal

Their best WR and CB left, along with a 2 year starting fighting for his job again in year 3. (two time captain)
Last year was Thorne's first year starting but even so, the fact that he was fighting for his job to the point he transferred makes it obvious a change needs to be made. The Coleman transfer is a much bigger deal, but it's not like Thorne leaving means they're gonna be that much worse. He just wasn't very good to begin with.

Wow, they gave up on him after he finished his first year starting? I tend to think players improve but he may be Casey Thompson

He had a couple of decent games but fell flat in their 3 biggest games of the year.

Payton Thornton transferring is addition by subtraction. Dude was horrible his entire MSU career. It’s like being upset that Joe Milton transferred.

He started 13 games in 2021, what the fuck are you talking about?

That was my bad, read his stats wrong. If anything, that just strengthens the argument that he lost the battle.

Um. No. 2021 he actually had more pass attempts than last year and went 11-2. It was certainly because of walker but he had pretty good stats in his first year. Hence why they thought msu would be fine without walker last year.

Edit. I see samurai corrected you already

Yeah he took a step back last year without Walker for sure, and Mel must see that and told him the job wasn't going to be handed back to him and he didn't like it. Again, this isn't a huge loss if your 3rd year starting QB is struggling to keep his spot vs. some unproven guys.

Just move them to the MAC where they belong and get it over with.

Auburn.

We're really going to have a matchup of Payton Thorne vs. Tyler Buchner in the Iron Bowl this year. Has that game ever featured a worse matchup of QBs?

How bad is Auburn’s QBs where Patrick Thorne is even an option?
With whatever is left over from the Gus bus and and what that G5 gomer had, I would guess that any option would be better than what they have. Just a guess, tho.
