It's been a couple of weeks since our last freeze but we are not out of the woods yet. Next Tuesday and Wednesday nights are projected to get down to 37. My home is a little higher elevation than in town so I seem to run a couple of degrees cooler on cold clear nights. Pot plants are pretty tough but we are getting down towards temps that I get cautious.

My apple tree has blossoms. Frost can wipe out the entire year on those kind of crops.

My self pollinating apple tree looked like it was heading for a bumper crop, but nooo-ooooo. Last storm put her on the ground. Lots of good smoking wood, now.
 
Huge rains storm woke me up around 3:00am last night.
Must have had a couple of inches of rain.

Laid there thinking every single plant got obliterated.

All Good no problems. One got bent over some, but it's ok.

They are tougher than most garden plants. Frost can be hard on seedlings. But wind and rain as long as they don't get flooded, they usually do pretty well. They bend over, they bounce right back up when the sun hits them.

I think that storm you're experiencing now is the weather I'm going to get on Tuesday and Wednesday. Low's are now forecasted at 35. For gardens and plants, I would rather cold and wet than a heavy frost. I'm going to wait until that passes before I get things in the ground. There's no use in taking risk at this point.

WHAT...A hard freeze and widespread frost with sub-freezing temperatures in the mid 20s expected. Temperatures near the Lake Ontario shore will be in the lower to middle 30s with patchy frost.WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region.


Yep...any garden stuff that's out needs to be covered tonight. I'll have to whack the entire bed of asparagus. The old saying still applies. Plant Memorial day weekend, knee high by 4th of July, makes for a perfect fall harvest.

The apple tree is chalk full of blossoms. If I get a heavy frost, it will most likely be a total loss.
 
We have a heat dome right now. Record high temps for May. 38C the other day.

My gals are loving it. Clone on left, seedling on right. Clone is about 2' tall.

Harvesting 2 Autoflowers today.
One is Chunkadelic
One is Muchacha

Was an experiment to see if a smaller pot size really did limit the size.
It did.

The smell on them are different, but both really strong.
 
I transplanted 3 Autoflowers into the ground about 2 weeks ago.
Have not been really happy with their growth rate.

Something chewed all the way through the stems and I found it laying on the ground.
Fortunately, it was the smallest of the 3.

Didn't look like any of it had been eaten, just chewed thru it and left the other 2 alone.
What does that exactly.

Rodent...rabbit maybe. Whatever it was, it sounds like it didn't like the taste.

After plants are ankle high, animals have been the least of my problems. Like you just experienced, I get the occasional something that takes a chunk out of a plant and leaves everything else alone so I assume they don't like the taste.

Humans ... thieves ... and then weather (no water / high winds bending/snapping tall plants over) have been my largest problems. One year, we had a major drought so I was watering plants every other day. Rabbits started eating the bark around the base of the plants. I guess thats how they got water for themselves. They killed a few plants by barking them. That was disappointing.

If you need a guard for the nightshift, let me know. I will even help you keep them topped and trimmed ...
 
I've been using Alaska liquid fish fertilizer with some pretty good results.

Not sure how it stacks up to some of the 'top brands' but the plants do respond to it well.

Was buying at Home Depot, etc, so looked on Amazon.

Yep, cheaper.

1 gallon of the 5-1-1 is $29 at the home centers, and only $20 on Amazon with free shipping.
Also the 1 gallon Alaska Morebloom 0-10-10 is $20]

Since Amazon sells and delivers these, I got both to get past the $25 requirement. They ended up being split up into 2 different shipments from 2 different locations, but still got their free shipping. I love doing that to them.

Let me know of some of the liquid nutrients you guys are using, and the results.
